Dodgers interested in 11-year veteran reliever in free agency: report

The Los Angeles Dodgers are expected to add at least one reliever this season, and possibly even two.

While they have been linked to many of the big names – including Edwin Diaz, Devin Williams and Pete Fairbanks – a new name entered the mix on Thursday.

MLB insider Francys Romero reported that the Dodgers are among the teams interested in signing right-handed reliever Raisel Iglesias. The Los Angeles Times confirmed that report and said the team would likely be interested in signing Iglesias on a shorter-term contract.

Iglesias, 35, is an 11-year veteran who most recently spent three-plus seasons with the Atlanta Braves. While he has never been an All-Star, he has been a steady presence in the back of the bullpens for most of the past decade.

Iglesias has a career 2.90 ERA across 600 appearances, including just 21 starts in his first two years in the league. He has 253 saves and has played 459 games, with 869 strikeouts in 736 regular season innings.

This past season, Iglesias had a 3.21 ERA over 70 games, his highest season-ending ERA since 2019. He finished the 2024 season with a 1.95 ERA and the 2023 season with a 2.75 ERA. Overall, in his three-plus seasons with Atlanta, he had a 2.35 ERA with 97 saves in 222 games.

Iglesias has never been a flamethrower type pitcher, so his success continued late in his career. His four-seam fastball, which averaged 90.8 mph last season, was hit at just .129.

Iglesias would be a great option for the Dodgers, or any team that doesn’t want to sign long-term deals with the pitchers at the top of the market. Iglesias just completed a four-year, $58 million deal he signed with the Los Angeles Angels (before being traded to the Braves). Spotter currently planning a two-year deal worth $17.6 million for him this offseason.
