Dodgers’ Freddie Freeman could be the next member of the 3,000-hit club

Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman may see the end of the road.

He told Sonja Chen of MLB.com that he hopes to play four more seasons and retire as a member of the Dodgers. Freeman has two years left on the six-year, $162 million contract he signed during the 2021-2022 offseason.

Freeman has put together a Hall of Fame career. Freeman, a nine-time All-Star and 2020 NL MVP, has posted a .300/.386/.511 batting line in his 9,363 plate appearances, hitting 367 home runs and 547 doubles. He is the active leader in runs scored (1379), hits (2431), doubles and RBI (1322).

Freddie Freeman has a shot at 3,000 hits if he can stay healthy

As impressive as his career totals are, there is one area that stands out. Freeman is 569 goals shy of the 3,000-hit mark, a plateau that could be within reach if he plays for four more years. He remained a fixture in the middle of the Dodgers’ lineup, posting a .295/.367/.502 batting line over his 627 plate appearances in 2025, hitting 24 home runs and 39 doubles.

Batting in the middle of the Dodgers lineup will certainly help Freeman in his rise to the 3,000-hit club. The Dodgers’ already formidable lineup has improved with the addition of outfielder Kyle Tucker, potentially giving Freeman more opportunities to add to his career totals.

Father Time eventually catches up with everyone. Freeman underwent ankle surgery during the 2024-25 offseason and said his ankle was an issue all season. However, if the 36-year-old Freeman can remain productive for four more years, he could become the 34th member of the 3,000-hit club.
