Tommy Edman left the final of the Los Angeles Dodgers’ series against the Tampa Bay Rays in the fifth inning after running an ankle injury while running to the first base.
Edman has played since May due to a persistent ankle injury and unfortunately has adjusted it again against the rays.

The Dodgers were considering placing Edman and Utility Man Hyenseong Kim on the injured list at the end of July. Los Angeles called Alex Freeland as a backup option and finally decided to only place Kim on the IL.
After leaving the game early on Sunday, Edman was diagnosed with a sprained ankle. There is no exact timeline for his return, but Dodgers manager Dave Roberts expects he will be out until September, per Dodgers Insider.
“It’s probably going to be some time in September,” said Roberts.
The Dodgers want to ensure that Edman no longer encounters any pain when he returns. The NL Gold Glove winner played an integral role last season in the World Series championship of the team after he had joined the team at the Trade Deadline.

Los Angeles acquired Edman and Reliever Michael Kopech in three teams with the St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago White Sox in 2024. Edman then won the NL Championship Series Most Valuable Player Award.
Edman has remained an important player for the Dodgers this season and has taken on various roles around the field. He was primarily their second base man, but appeared in midfield and filled in on third base, while Max Muncy recovered from a bone button.
Edman .228/.281/.396 cuts on the record and has hit 12 home runs in 86 games.
The Dodgers expect that Edman will be healthy before the end of the season, but take extra precautions to ensure that he will be completely healthy in October and will not suffer a setback for the late season.
