Dodgers @ Angels 11 August 2025: Yamamoto opens the Freeway series in Anaheim – Dodgers Digest

The Dodgers (68-50) blew their opportunity to wipe the best team in the over yesterday, if Blake trains And Alex shutters Combined to give up three solo gyms in the last two innings for a loss of 5-4. It was still a positive series in general, because the attack came to life a bit (even yesterday she blew some chances with runners in score position, but they actually had Lopers in score position) and the pitching was strong for most of the series. They took two of the three for the third time in their last four series, but the management in the West is still on only two games when the Padres took two of the three from Boston.

Tonight, the Dodgers pause their homstand to go to Anaheim for a set of three games before he returns home for the Big Weekend Series with San Diego. The Angels (56-62) were three games below .500 at the deadline, made a few small but win-now transactions at the deadline and have now gone 3-6 since the deadline. Of course the angels wipe the Dodgers when they met in LA in May and defeated them 23-15. The Angels scored six points in the first and third games of the series and exploded for a season-high 11 runs in the middle game, led by a five-run seventh Ben Casparis And Kirby Yates. This series will not contain an old friend Chris TaylorWho is on the IL with a hand fracture for the second time since he becomes a member of the angels.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto Gets the start of a strong outing in Tampa. Yamamoto threw 5 2/3 shutout -innings with six strikeouts and no walks in 88 throws. He allowed five hits and had to be perfect because the Dodgers did not continue to give him much ongoing support. They finally broke through at the top of the sixth and Yama got two out in the soil before giving up a single to end his night. In four starts since the nightmare of Yamamoto starts against the Brewers, he has allowed four points and 18 hits in 24 1/3 innings with 30 strikeouts and only five free runs. Thanks to the day off on Thursday and the rotation that starts to become healthier, this is the first start of Yamamoto on six days of rest since 2 May. In the five starts he made on six days of rest in April/May, Yamamoto allowed one earned point (three undeserved) and 16 hits in 30 innings (and somehow only went 3-2 in that rack). Yamamotos have never confronted the angels in his career and has only confronted one current angel, Deadline -Acquisition Oswald Peraza. He saw Peraza when the Yankees came to LA in June and Peraza hit 0-out-2 with a strikeout.

Jose Soriano Makes his 25th start of the season for the angels. He has posted a 4.01 ERA/3.55 FIP in a career-high 137 innings and has shown flashes of dominance this season. He has thrown six shutouts of six or more innings so far and has allowed two or fewer points in 13 of his 24 Starts. He has also been a bit susceptible to having terrible starts, with six outings of five or more permitted points. He comes from one of those bad starts last Tuesday, so that seven points out of seven hits in four innings against Tampa. The Dodgers did not see Soriano as a starter, but saw him relieved in his Rookie season. Soriano was confronted with six batters and four of them reached on two walks and two singles, including an RBI Single Max Muncy.

Soriano is a fairly extreme founder pitcher. There are three qualified pitchers on or above a ground ball percentage of 60 percent this season. Andre Pallante is at 60 percent, Framber Valdez is at 60.2 percent and Soriano has a ground ball percentage of 66.7 percent. If he stays at his pace and is eligible, his ground ball percentage would be the highest in a qualified pitcher since Dodger Legend Derek Lowe in 2006 (67 percent). It would be a winning formula for a normal franchise, but the Angels Infield defense has a -31 OAA this season, six lower than the second worst team (Washington). Although the ground ball percentage is high, Soriano also has the second worst running speed between qualified starters (10.4 percent).

Soriano usually throws two throws. He has thrown a zinc shed 51 percent of the time and is an average of 97.1 MPH with it. He also thrown 26.4 percent of the time into a knuckle curve and three other pitches each about seven percent of the time each.

Alex Call Gets the start today with Teoscar Hernandez Get a day off. Alex Freeland Gets another start at the second.

The next step of Kopech can be a rehabilitation assignment. Yates will probably also be confronted with Hitters this week and Scott can be confronted with Hitters next weekend.
