MLBPA appoints Bruce Meyer as interim director following the Tony Clark scandal

The Major League Baseball Players Association has a replacement for Tony Clark.

Bruce Meyer, previously the union’s No. 2 official, was unanimously elected interim director, the union confirmed.

He replaces Clark, who has led the MLBPA since late 2013 after shockingly resigning as executive director on Tuesday. Matt Nussbaum was named interim deputy director.

Meyer has worked for the union since 2018 and played a key role in the collective labor agreement negotiations from 2021 to 2022.

Clark resigned after an internal investigation uncovered reports that revealed an inappropriate relationship with his sister-in-law, who worked for the MLBPA, The Post’s Joel Sherman reported.

The union boss was about to embark on his annual spring training tour of 30 camps in Arizona and Florida to talk to players with tense CBA negotiations set to begin in the coming months.

Meyer, who previously worked for the NHL players’ union from 2016 to 2018, spoke out about the Clark scandal earlier on Wednesday.

“On a personal level, I think we’re all pretty devastated by the things that have happened in the last 48, 72 hours,” Meyer said. according to the Associated Press. “I’m not going to go any further than that in terms of personal feelings, but it’s fair to say that we were all personally upset and concerned about Tony. But I think it was something that the players determined had to happen at this particular time.”

The sudden shakeup at the MLBPA comes at a crucial time as players and the league enter the final year of their CBA.

With talk of a growing salary cap, MLB owners are widely expected to lock out players when the CBA expires after the 2026 season.
