Dodgers’ Andy Pages announces disappointing news for Team Cuba and the World Baseball Classic

Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Andy Pages confirmed he will not play for Team Cuba in the upcoming 2026 World Baseball Classic.

Yordano Carmona of Cuban Ball shared the news.

Pages explained to the Cuban newspaper why he ultimately chose not to adapt to his home country.

“I still have a lot to improve and I have to prepare for a long season,” said Pages. “I have to focus on what’s most important.”

Pages was on Cuba’s preliminary roster and expressed interest; however, he decided to switch to focus on his game and grow with the Dodgers.

The 25-year-old outfielder played a crucial role for the defending World Series champions. However, Pages wasn’t at his best, especially when it mattered in 2025. Pages played primarily in center field, and while his defense was solid, he suffered a historically bad batting slump in the postseason.

Page counts were down after a strong regular season. He had trouble chasing pitches and striking out regularly. In the postseason, he had an extremely low batting average and drew very few walks, especially in the National League Division Series and the World Series.

Although he struggled at the plate, he was excellent in the outfield. Pages made one of the best plays of the season, and certainly in World Series history. The Cuban outfielder saved the Dodgers’ season in Game 7 of the World Series with a sensational catch by Blue Jays’ Ernie Clement before the bottom of the ninth inning, sending the game into extra innings.

His defense has been stellar all season, with exceptional stats ranking in the 97th percentile in Outs Above Average, the 90th percentile in arm value, and the 98th percentile in arm strength. As for his offense, Pages was solid in the regular season, slashing .272/.313/.461 with a .774 OPS, along with 27 home runs, 86 RBIs and 158 hits on 581 at-bats in 156 games.

Andy Pages faces a pivotal year as Dodgers Eye Three-Peat

Pages is one of the more polarizing figures for the Dodgers in 2026. While he is expected to be the Dodgers’ primary center fielder this season, if its offense continues to struggle, Los Angeles could look to make an upgrade at that position.

It’s a tall order, and a lot still needs to go right, but the Dodgers will still depend on Pages for modest offensive performance in their pursuit of a three-peat.
