The Edmonton Oilers are on the way to their training camp 2025-26 without plans to invite players to professional try-outs (PTOs), which means that rumors that Fan-Favourite Klim could be back seem to be inaccurate.
This does not mean that costin will not be back in the mix, but according to veteran Reporter Jim Matheson, “At the moment there are no indications for pro-try-outs in Oiler Camp, so no re-engagement with climb costin.”
Matheson adds that main camp drugs and fitness tests will only start next Wednesday. That means that the oilers have 24-48 hours to invite him (or someone else) before those players would miss valuable time that they could use to help themselves with the organization and earn a contract.
Although Matheson noted that the circumstances could always change, there is currently no reason to expect the oilers to bring in extra players on PTOs prior to the camp. In the specific case of Kostin, the oilers may not be interested on the basis of the players they have in the system, including Max Jones, who they picked up at the deadline in the same trade that Trent Frederic brought to Edmonton. Jones was overlooked this summer by the most analysts, but he hopes to earn a schedule in the team and is willing to play, to hit and fight aggressively – things that Kostin was known for.
Edmonton seems ready to give prospects opportunities, as well as the hope that internal competition is sufficient to find some diamonds in the rough.
This will be disappointing news for cost -fans, many of whom hoped that he would get the chance to participate in the camp this year. Creeks with Sport In Russia, Kostin said that he would like nothing more than to join Edmonton, where he felt most at home during his NHL career.
“In Edmonton I wanted to die on the ice for the fans,” said Kostin. “This is the place where I felt most at ease and was myself. Of course this is my dream.”
Unfortunately it doesn’t sound like his dream will become reality.
