For weeks, speculation about the future of Sidney Crosby has used to the hockey world. On Sunday the captain of Pittsburgh Penguins made it clear – he doesn’t go anywhere.
“There are many stories that are there and I don’t think many of mine came,” said Crosby. “This is where I want to be. I think it’s great here. I can’t keep answering the same question because of these stories, you know?”
The 37-year-old center, which enters the last part of his career and is approaching the end of his current contract with the Penguins (two years left), emphasized how much the city and the organization mean for him. “I think someone who knows me knows what this city means to me and how special it is. I think those rumors or some of those things are lightly,” he added.
Crosby also responded to comments from his agent, Pat Brisson, who encouraged part of the recent speculation. “I was surprised and I think Pat knows how much I put in it, how much I love it and how much I want to be in the play -offs,” said Crosby.
Crosby’s inheritance with the penguins means everything
In addition to taking potential rumors that he wrapped his head around the idea of leaving Pittsburgh, Crosby thought about another franchise icon. At Marc-Andre Fleury’s expected last game in a Penguins-uniform, Crosby said: “I know what he means for the city, what he means for us and the organization, so it will be very cool to see that and to be part of it.”
For Penguins -fans who are worried about the future, the message from Crosby could not have been clearer: he was dedicated to end his career in the only NHL city he has ever called at home.
