Volunteer coach and competition president Rob Lora told CBS Boston that the damaged backstop will take at least a month to repair.

Communities in Leominster are furious after the Backstop destroyed the Backstop at one of the Little League Baseball fields of the city.

“Thank you who thought it would be a good idea to help us redesign!” The competition wrote in one Facebook messageIncluding photos of the fragmented backstop torn with the filling. The damage costs at least $ 3,000 to repair, according to the competition.

Volunteer coach and League President Rob Lora discovered the damage on Monday morning, according to CBS Boston. Until the backstop is resolved, teams cannot play on the field due to concern about safety.

“They did something very malicious to hurt the children. They knew that. It didn’t throw a cone, they took the action to tear it apart, tear everything out and they knew what they were doing,” Lora told CBS. “You don’t hurt us, you don’t hurt the park, you hurt the children because they can’t use that facility. So it’s heartbreaking.”

While the fresh backstop is being repaired, according to CBS, the competition has had to move and play on a borrowed field. Lora told CBS that it could take “a month to six weeks or more” until the field is safe to play again.

The Leominster police are investigating vandalism, but currently has no leads about who did it or why, according to The Worcester Telegram.

The police of Lora and Leominster did not immediately respond to requests for comments.
