Derby County could loan the 22-year-old before the end of the transfer window News: The72 – Football League News

Derby County could loan out Jake Rooney before the end of the month, as detailed in a report from DerbyshireLive.

Derby County could temporarily let the defender out the door between now and the end of the January transfer window. DCFC has until the deadline of Monday, February 2 to complete all incoming and outgoing matters.

Rooney, 22, returned to the Rams earlier this winter after his spell in League One with Barnsley. He played seven games for the Tykes during his time at Oakwell, one of which came in the league, and struggled with injury problems.

In this latest update on his immediate situation at Pride Park, DerbyshireLive suggest that another departure is planned for him in the coming weeks. It remains to be seen at this stage who might be interested in a move.

Derby County are in eleventh place in the league Championship after their first 29 games and they are two points away from the play-offs behind Wrexham in 6th place. John Eustace’s side drew 1-1 at home to West Brom last time out and conceded a final goal against the Baggies which was frustrating.

Derby County could loan out Jake Rooney again

Derby County must make a decision on what to do with the centre-back. He is unlikely to break into DCFC’s starting XI in the second tier.

He faces stiff competition for his position from the likes of Matt Clarke, Sondre Langas and Dion Sanderson. Therefore, it would make sense for him to leave again.

Rooney had spells at Tranmere Rovers and Burnley as a youngster before joining the Rams in 2022. He made his first-team debut in a Carabao Cup match against Mansfield Town.

The Liverpool-born man has since played 22 more times for Derby County. However, he has struggled to find minutes over the past few seasons, which is why he was loaned out to Barnsley last year.

What about Jake Rooney at Derby County now?

Derby County will be considering Rooney’s next move. DCFC wants him to go somewhere where he is guaranteed consistent playing time.

That could mean that we have to drop down to League Two to get regular opportunities. It appears he isn’t part of the Rams’ plans at the moment.

His contract also expires at the end of this term. As things stand now, he will become a free agent in June.

Eustace’s men are back in action this Friday after their draw against West Brom. They face a trip to Ashton Gate to play Bristol City.
