- Lexus has confirmed it will end production of LC coupes and convertibles at the end of the 2026 model year.
- Lexus discontinued the LC Hybrid last July.
- The sports car was first launched for the 2018 model year.
Pour one out for the Lexus LC. The company confirmed it will discontinue the V8-powered coupe and convertible after the 2026 model year. In an emailed statement to Engine1a Lexus spokesperson told us:
‘The Lexus LC 500 will be officially discontinued after the 2026 model year. Lexus continually evaluates its model mix and strategy to optimize product offering options to meet the needs of our guests and align with consumer demand.”
Lexus unveiled the sports car, based on the 2012 LF-LC Concept, at the 2016 Detroit Auto Show. Production would begin in 2017 for the 2018 model year. The Lexus LC convertible would debut in Detroit a year later.
The LC debuted with a 5.0-liter V8 engine that produced 471 horsepower and 398 pound-feet of torque. Lexus also offered a hybrid version, combining a 3.5-liter V6 with two electric motors for a combined output of 354 hp and 369 lb-ft, but the company sold only 251 units over its lifespan before being discontinued after 2025.
The standard LC wasn’t exactly a big hit either. Even in its best year (2021), Lexus sold only 2,782 units, while fewer than 1,300 units found new homes in 2021. When the hybrid met its maker late last year, we knew it was only a matter of time before the entire LC line was discontinued as well.

Taking Motor1s: It’s sad to see the Lexus LC go, but it’s not a surprise. The automaker is preparing a new sports car, the GR GT, which it will sell through its Lexus dealers, and sales of the coupe and convertible have never been higher.
