David Stearns from Mets did not give up the wrestling of Frankie Montas: “I know he works hard”

Milwaukee – a large part of the Mets fan base may feel different, but the President of the team’s baseball operations said on Friday that he is ‘excited’, he will see how Frankie Montas is standing against the Brewers.

“I know he is working hard,” said David Stearns. “And I’m looking forward to seeing him some outs.”

Montas, who will either start on Saturday or will be behind a more open manager Carlos Mendoza, was not ready to announce his plans before the 3-2 loss of Friday before the Brewers is the weak link of the rotation. His struggles have encouraged the calls to the organization to promote a top perspective, such as Nolan McLean or Brandon Sproat to receive a shot.

Montas allowed seven earned runs about four innings in its start against the Giants on Sunday and this season threw an ERA of 6.68 in his seven outings.

“With Frankie we probably had a little inconsistency with implementation,” said Stearns. “He left some fields, and although he throws hard, when he leaves his fastball or leaves it in the middle, these are really good batters, and they are going to hit it.”

Stearns said that the lack of schedule flexibility of the team played a role in the decision to keep the young weapons of the organization in the minors. The Mets have only one pitcher who can be chosen back and forth between minors and used that place to rotate fresh bull pen.

“That is all part of the comparison,” said Stearns. “The scheduling situation is part of the comparison and to ensure that we treat their development in the right way, is part of the comparison. They are doing great.”

Stearns, who led the Front Office of Brewers before he arrived after the 2023 season, was asked how much he appreciated the level at which his former team plays.

The Bewers have the best record of MLB and were the first team to win 70 victories.

“I think everyone in baseball looks at them and recognizes that they have a great season,” said Stearns. “They have put together a real talented team. It is a really good runs prevention unit, and attacking, one to nine, they have a complete line-up that you can defeat in different ways. They are clearly a good basering team. I admire what they have done.”

Does Stearns find some pride of seeing a team he helped with the success?

“No, I am here with the Mets, and that team has turned a forest since I am there,” said Stearns. “I have good relationships with many people who are still there. They have done great.”
