Paul Gervonta was expected to meet ‘Tank’ Davis before the end of 2025. Plans changed after Davis was filed a civil lawsuit alleging assault and kidnapping by a woman. Paul released a statement criticizing “Tank” for the allegations and pulled the plug on the matchup.
A report by Mike Coppinger of Ring Magazine later claimed that Paul vs. Joshua is scheduled for December 19. During the UFC 322 post-fight press conference, White was asked about the potential fight, and it’s clear he doesn’t think “The Problem Child” would have much success in such a fight (via MMAfighting).
“Oh Jesus,” White said at the UFC 322 post-fight press conference when told about the potential matchup. “That’s a damn bad idea. That’s a bad idea.”
White further predicted that people would tune in to see Paul get excited.
“Let me tell you what, a lot of people are going to watch it,” White said. “Certainly [I’ll watch]. You know what everyone is tuning in to. I think everyone will finally get what they’ve been waiting for.”
White and Paul have exchanged words over the years. Paul once criticized the UFC boss on social media for criticizing his boxing match against Mike Tyson.
“Dana White has been a boxing promoter his entire career.” Paul wrote. “All these idiots need to do their research. His TV show failed. Couldn’t sell 4K tickets in Dublin with that useless Irish boxer he’s promoting. And he’s not fighters first. He’s Dana first. Builds you up and takes you down. Now Conor McGregor is a hostage. White recently appeared on the ‘Impaulsive’ podcast and spoke with Paul’s brother Logan. He said he made fun of Paul for involving lawyers when others spoke about him publicly.
‘I don’t hate [Jake]he talks more shit than anyone on the planet, and now him and the warlock [Nakisa Bidarian] running around trying to sue people? Do they try to sue people when people talk nonsense?’ White said.
