UFC CEO Dana White says there is no truth to rumors that a clash between Conor McGregor and Jorge Masvidal is being targeted by the White House. The discussion surrounding a fight between the two stars recently started to gather steam on social media, and Masvidal only added fuel to the fire when he talked MMAjunkie.com that he was ‘training for something big’.
During a recent interview with TMZ Sports, White quickly dismissed the possibility when he heard McGregor vs. Masvidal had become a hot topic on social media.”You know what’s funny? In my algorithm on Instagram, I don’t have anything MMA,” White said. “There is literally nothing MMA coming up.
“I don’t listen to that crazy stuff. It’s crazy stuff. The MMA world, I don’t listen to that crazy stuff. So literally none of that is in my algorithm. Almost everything you see on the internet about our sport is wrong. It’s completely wrong.”As for putting together the card for the White House, the UFC boss says matchmaking will likely begin in earnest shortly after the conclusion of UFC 324.
“I think we’ll have it in the second week of February,” White said. “We will have everything ready.”
Plans for Harrison vs. Nunes
Last week, UFC 324 suffered a major blow when Kayla Harrison pulled out of her bantamweight title defense against Amanda Nunes to undergo surgery on her neck. According to White, there was no way Nunes would remain on the card against a replacement opponent.“This fight is the biggest women’s fight ever,” White said. “You can’t just throw someone else at it. Wait until she’s ready and start the fight.”
White added that it wasn’t difficult for Nunes, who has been retired since June 2023, to wait for Harrison to return to full health.
“Amanda is so wonderful to work with,” White said. “I’ve had a great relationship with her since day one. It’s very easy to work with her.”
As for moving the blockbuster women’s battle, White is optimistic that will happen in the not-too-distant future.
“The operation went well,” he said. “She [Harrison] should make a full recovery and we should be able to compete this year.”
