The Cubs announced this afternoon that they placed outfielder Owen Caission On the 7-day brain-related injured list. Outfield Kevin Alcantara was called back from Triple-A to replace caation on the active schedule.
The move comes only one day after the Cubs Caiss had reminded of the big league selection and had received Alcantara for the minors. Caissie started yesterday’s game against the Rays, but left the game after he hit his head against the outfield wall on Wigley Field while he made a catch. Manager Craig Counsel told reporters (including Vinnie Duber of the Chicago Sun Times) That caation was placed by the concussion protocol after yesterday’s game. Apparently the symptoms of Caiss were serious enough that they chose to place him on the shelf and to get him time to recover.
Caiss’s first season in the large competitions can bring that decision to an end, depending on the severity of his concussion symptoms. If that is the case, he ends 2025 with only 12 games and 27 record performances in the large competitions, in which he collected five hits (including a double and a homer) and one walk against eleven strikeouts. That cup of coffee bars with a strong performance with Iowa this year, where he .286/.386/.551 with 22 gays and 28 Doubles intersected in just 99 games. Caission, a consensus top-50 prospect in the game, could get a lot more runway with the CUBS coming next season as Kyle Tucker The club leaves through a free desk in the low season.
For now, however, his selection goes to Alcantara. A fellow summit Cubs prospect was generally seen as behind the back of the competition-wide top 100, Alcantara appeared in just three games this year. This year he went 1-out-7 with three strikeouts and figures to usually serve as a bank piece for the Cubs in the coming weeks, although injuries can offer him more opportunities. Both Kyle Tucker and Seiya Suzuki are currently not available; Suzuki because of a disease that has left him every day in recent days, and Tucker because of a veal issue that sent him to the injured list. Colleague Top Spective Moises Ballesteros (7-from-28 with three extra basehits) is currently a look at DH, and that leaves the right field open for a combination of Alcantara and Willi Castro Until Suzuki is ready to return to games. As soon as Suzuki is back, Alcantara, Ballesteros and Castro will all compete for playing time until Tucker’s final return to the line -up.
Perhaps that is not for a while, as Counselell reporters told (including Sahadev Sharma of athletics) on Friday that Tucker returns as soon as he is eligible to be activated on Tuesday, is “Unlikely at the moment.” Perhaps that attitude could change in the coming days, but Tucker has not resumed since he was placed on the injured list. While the cubs are not currently running the danger of losing their play -off place, it seems at the moment the 140 WRC+ Bat back in the line -up to settle before the play -offs start is definitely a top priority for the Cubs during the last two weeks of the season.
