The Colorado Rockies were looking for their first series victory in Houston since 2011 when they took the Astros in the serial final on Thursday afternoon. Starting pitching remained impeccable for both teams, but it would be a towering home run on the bottom of the eighth and many other missed opportunities to give the Rockies their 96th loss of the season.
After Tanner Gordon and Chase Dollander each of the quality started against the Astros, Kyle Freeland picked up the baton and kept the relay going.
It came on a rocky start for freeland in the first inning when he finally gave two home runs to Jose Altuve and Christian Walker with two out. The home runs were not necessarily bombs when Altuve’s barely got into the Crawford boxes in the left field and Walker just passed the right field line.
The lack of hard hits was a common theme for freeland during its start. The Astros squeaked over their third run in the second half of the second inning on a dribbler in the Infield that Freeland picked up in an uncomfortable position and could not make the pitch to the first base. Then he got better when the game continued with his throws. He left the game 3-3, after he had allowed three points on eight hits with six strikeouts and no walks. He was democratic with four groundouts and five fly -outs, while he retired seven straight batters with which he was confronted to end his outing.
In the meantime, Jason Alexander looked almost awkward because of the early part of the game for the Astros. He eliminated five of the first six batters who sent the Rockies to the board and continued with a career-high eight batter people over 5 2/3 innings.
The Rockies began to set up the pressure on the bottom of the third when they scratched their first run through the choice of a ground balletder from Mickey Moniak to score Braxton Fulford. The Rockies would hook two more runs via home runs from Ezequiel Tovar and Yanquiels Fernández and ride him out of the game with two out and a runner on the third in the sixth, but could not score.
He finished the day with three points on seven hits of more than 5 2/3 innings with eight strikeouts and two free running.
After the departure of Freeland, the Rusted Rockies Bullpen wanted to keep the line to hopefully win the team. Juan Mejia drove through the seventh inning and Warren Schaeffer handed the ball to Luis Peralta for the eighth inning.
Unfortunately, the first throw that Peralta threw for Christian Walker, who shot the ball 107 km / h from the bat for a solo-home run, his second of the game, to give the Astros a 4-3 lead and the final victory.
However, things could have been worked out differently or the Rockies if they had used some of their scoring options. In the bottom of the fifth, Kyle Karros turned a ball to the right with two, but Tyler Freeman was thrown away at home by a bullet from Cam Smith.
As mentioned, the Rockies Brenton Doyle released to the third base with two, but Fulford stood to the third base to end the inning. In the seventh, the first two batters reached, but Moniak could not get a shock to promote them, which resulted in a swinging bunt that resulted in a force on third base.
Karros then spread for the second zero, followed by Jordan Beck, who reached through the interference of Catcher to load the bases. Unfortunately, Doyle swinging to end the collection. Towards the end they had gone 1-out-7 with runners in a score position with 13 strikeouts against four walks.
The Rockies still ended with eight hits, with Fernández 2-from-2 with the Thuis Run. Only two starters did not get a hit, but the top six in the battle order each had at least two strikeouts with Doyle that three seconds.
There were hits of a number of high -quality percussions and opportunities from the attack, but they couldn’t string anything to each other or get the big hit, leaving a lot to be desired.
Colorado goes back home to welcome the Chicago Cubs for a three-game set from Friday. Gift Horton (8-4, 2.88 ERA) takes the hill for the Cubs, while Germán Márquez (3-11, 5.67 ERA) is planned to return from the injured list to make the beginning.
