Who could realistically sign Trinity Rodman?
The first, and perhaps most obvious, choice is for the American forward to re-sign with the Washington Spirit, keeping her American side within the NWSL. Since starting the season in 2021, it is the only club in North America she has played for domestically – this is her home.
It’s unlikely she would entertain another NWSL team and given her desire to play at the very top, it seems like Europe would be the next option.
With that in mind, Chelsea would be the only club that could offer the best package. The English side are known to spend a lot of money when it counts BBC has reported that they belong to different clubs ‘following’ the situation of the American.
Considering fellow international teammates Alyssa Thompson, Naomi GirmaAnd Catarina Macario are all on the books of the Blues in London, it would be no problem to establish yourself. Almost guaranteed trophies and title challenges, with Chelsea also competing in the UEFA Women’s Champions League, is a viable option.
Another European team that could potentially be an option is OL Lyonnes. Despite being packed with attacking talent, Rodman is a market opportunity that may be too good not to take advantage of for the French giants.
OL Lyonnes, like the Washington Spirit, is owned by Michele Kang. The American entrepreneur is known for her heavy investments in her clubs. If the Spirit can’t keep Rodman, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Kang try to secure her services for one of her other clubs.
That said, the 23-year-old has previously shown a desire to remain in the United States. ESPN previously reported this that the attacker has previously rejected offers from Europe, which indicates where her preference lies.
