Batavia, NY – Old Man Winter continued his residency at Batavia Downs on Thursday afternoon (January 29), bringing more wind, snow and frigid temperatures to the proceedings. Only a Crazy Fool would want to race in that, and so he did. He won the $10,000 Class A-AA trot with an impressive turn of foot.

Crazy Fool (Kyle Cummings) watched from his pylon start as Latavius (Brett Beckwith) took the lead and passed the eighth post. But Cummings had Crazy Fool back straight away and crossed to regain the lead in the quarter in:30.3. He then moved to the halfway mark in 1:02, where the race split into two groups separated by a healthy gap.

Crazy Fool continued his measured control as Double Class (Denny Bucceri) came from third to tie alongside Latavius at three-quarters in 1:31.1. The trio then entered turn four where Crazy Fool looked best, Latavius held off Double Class’s challenge and the rest of the field was no longer a factor. Returning home, Crazy Fool had a one-and-a-half length lead over Latavius, who had no answer as the wire closed, making Crazy Fool an easy winner in 2:00.2.

Crazy Fool ($12.48) is owned by its driver Kyle Cummings, in partnership with Matthew Miller. Tammy Cummings trains the 6-year-old gelding son of Crazy Wow-Winkys Gal.

Monti’s victory quad pushed him back into the top spot for wins (15) this match, vaulting past Brett Beckwith (12), who was eliminated on Thursday.

Nine different trainers won one race each during the nine-race program.
