On December 3, 2014Coach Tambroni and the Lacrosse program of Penn State men about Gavin via the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation’s Adopt-A-Shild programA life -changing initiative that combines children with pediatric cancer with athletic teams to offer love, support and friendship. From that day ahead, Gavin not only became a part of the team – he became a family.
Gavin had been on the sidelines for more than ten years, traveled to games and was embraced by players as one of them. His presence has become more than symbolic – it is a source of inspiration, strength and perspective for the entire program. And the core of all this is Jeff Tambroni, the embodiment of what it means to be a foj nedvocate.
In a world where university athletics can be consumed by rankings, recruitment and pressure, coach Tambroni brings something else: humanity. His leadership is not only measured in victories – it is seen in the way he leads Compassion, humility and heart. Every player who has worn a Penn State uniform under his guidance will tell you: playing for coach Tambroni is about becoming a better Lacrosse player -and a better man.
Tambroni’s band with Gavin reflects the core of Friends of Jaclyn’s mission – to change the story of fear and uncertainty to one of hope and connection. Gavin does not only continue to support the team as a fan, but as a hunter and a symbol of what it means to persist. And coach Tambroni has ensured that his story remains central in the identity of the team.
