Hernandez Inks deals with Nailers | Pro hockey news

Wheeling, W.Va.-de Wheeling Nailers, Echl branch of the Pittsburgh Penguins of the National Hockey League, announced that the Randy Hernández team signed for a contract for the 2025-26 season.

The rights of Hernández were taken over by the Nailers in June to complete future considerations trade with the Atlanta Gladiators. The 26-year-old started his professional career at Atlanta in 2024-25 and placed 20 points (11G-9a) in 65 games.

Before Pro became, the resident of Miami, Florida played four seasons of College Hockey – one at Robert Morris University and then three at Canisius College. His most productive college season was his first year in Robert Morris, when he led the settlers with 11 goals and 25 points in 24 games. That performance earned him AHA (West Pod) Rookie of the Year Honors. He crossed to Canisius after the 2020-21 season and continued with the back-to-back seasons of more than 20 points with the Golden Griffins, including a 22-point campaign as a senior, who was in third place on the team. Hernandez also had the opportunity to experience the success of the exciting team, while Canisius Holy Cross defeated the AHA Tournament Championship 2022-23 and for the second time in school history and to continue the NCAA National Tournament for the first time in ten years.

Both Randy’s parents came from Cuba and in 2024 Hernández served as an assistant coach for Team Cuba at the Amerigol Latam Cup. Cuba defeated Greece, with 4-3 to win the championship.
