Sheffield United’s new boy Patrick Bamford could be a class act at Championship level, say reporter Chris Dunlavy.
Sheffield United have arrested the striker after a short-term agreement until January. SUFC brought him in following his departure from Leeds United earlier this year.
Bamford, 32, cut ties with the Whites at the end of August and has since been considering his next move in the game as a free agent. He has now made the decision to drop back into the Championship and go to Bramall Lane.
Journalist Dunlavy has expressed his opinion on the transfer, the newspaper said Football competition paper (16.11.26, page 7): “Bamford has always been a player who needs rhythm and confidence to perform at his best. Over the past four years, niggles and injuries have made that impossible and attracted no shortage of effort from the Elland Road terraces.
“But the last time he was fully fit for a full season, in 2020/21, Bamford scored 17 Premier League goals for Leeds and was called up by England. That doesn’t happen by accident. Whether Bamford can ever recapture that kind of form remains to be seen, but at his best he is a powerful goalscorer and a class player at Championship level.”
Sheffield United new challenge for Patrick Bamford
Sheffield United have landed Bamford to strengthen their attacking department. He will give SUFC more competition and depth at the top and will compete with the likes of Tyrese Campbell, Tom Cannon and Danny Ings for a place in their starting XI.
The Lincolnshire native spent seven years on the books of Leeds United. He scored 60 goals in 205 games during his time at Elland Road.
Bamford played for Nottingham Forest as a youngster before Chelsea came calling in 2012. However, he never made a senior appearance at Stamford Bridge and was loaned out to MK Dons, Derby County, Middlesbrough, Crystal Palace, Norwich City and Burnley to gain some experience.
Middlesbrough secured his services permanently in 2016 and he found the net fourteen times in 53 games. Leeds United then swooped in and he will now be keen on a fresh start at Sheffield United.

What next for Sheffield United?
Sheffield United have had a difficult start to the season and will be hoping Bamford can put them ahead. SUFC find themselves in the drop zone after their first fifteen games, along with Norwich City and Sheffield Wednesday.
The Blades reappointed Chris Wilder in September and he returned for a third spell. He was picked as their replacement for Ruben Selles, who was sacked after poor form.
Last time before the international break they drew 0-0 at home against QPR and could not find a winner against the Hoops. Next up is a trip to Hillsborough on Sunday to take on rivals Sheffield Wednesday.
Sheffield United have the chance to bring in even more new faces when the January transfer window opens. They also have the option to allow some players to leave the exit door as well if necessary.
