Shields spent her day at College Park with aspiring hunters and promoting youth fitness and mentoring. The city officials presented her a special proclamation that recognized her performance and community impact.
Although originally from Flint, Michigan, Shields expressed her gratitude that she was chosen for the prize. She stated that the proclamation serves as a sign that it has been taken over in her new home and is Embraced the same as she was in Flint.
The boxer visited the park, where she spent time with young athletes who learned the basic principles of Boxing. The city of College Park placed highlights of the event on Facebook and Instagram. Moreover, the city thanked the Olympian for its appearance.
Parents and coaches watched while shields showed the right attitude, punching and boxing techniques. She spent time in the ring and took photos with campers, offered individual encouragement and shared her journey.
Shields said that youth empowerment is one of the many reasons that she was attracted to the event. The champion believes that positive role models are necessary in the development of children.
The event was organized by the Parks and Recreation Department of the city, which runs the Summer Boxing Camp in Phillips Park. This year’s camp has more than 50 participants drawn Ages from 8 to 15. The camp includes afternoon conditioning exercises, ring training and character -built conversations led by local coaches.
City officials say that the presence of Shields has ratified the program and the broader efforts of the city to involve children in positive after -school activities.
“Her visit emphasizes the power of sport to bring communities together,” said a park organizer.
College Park is one of the many communities that use sports camps to promote the development of young people and healthy living in Atlanta. Shields’ visit follows recent performances by other professional athletes at City-Run programs, aimed at inspiring the next generation.
