The Cincinnati Reds call on Sal Stewart according to Jon Morosi of MLB Network. Earlier on Sunday, the Connor Joe team saw designated for assignment and clear remote statements and then downright to Triple-A. That movement knew a place on the schedule of 40 people. Stewart, one of the top perspectives of Reds, is not on the schedule of 40 men and must be added before he can be called.
For Stewart, he had stated in the spring training that his goal was in 2025 to reach the big competitions. After never playing above A-Ball, that was an elevated goal, but he went to Double-A and led the competition on average and was in the top 10 of each statistical category that an attacking player can be in, except stolen bases after 80 games when he was promoted to Triple-A.
Stewart has hit better since he arrived in Louisville than he had struck in Chattanooga with the lookout. In the 38 races since his promotion he has hit .315/.394/.629. In general, he has now picked up 34 Doubles and 20 home runs in his 118 games that are played between the two levels.
This season he mainly played the third base, but in the beginning had some time on second base and even less. Stewart tends to be sure and makes accurate throws. But he does not have much reach in the field and is probably not suitable for playing second base in the large competitions. On the third base, his limited reach is something you can get away with. With only two starts at first base in his entire career, that is probably not a place where you would play it now.
Of course, even if there is no position for him to play in the field right away, the National League now has the designated Hitterspot, so there is a way for him to get into the line -up.
The big question is why the club lasted so long to take this step? They have had trouble scoring runs throughout the month. And with Stewart who hit the lid of the ball, made tons of contact, struck the whole field with the help of 430+ feet home runs, they just kept him in Triple-A, while half of the line-up did not touch their body weight and struggled to snack the body weight of an average NFL-Offative Lineman.
Instead, the team waited until September when the schedules expanded, after having gone 2-8 and to fall to the .500 before he won on Sunday, to call on the most popular (and demonstrably most talented) Hitter that they have in the small competitions. And unless the team adds him to the schedule before midnight, if they take a miracle and make the play -offs in one way or another, he will not even be eligible unless someone else is injured and he can take their place.
