Chris Richards and Crystal Palace play UEFA Conference League football this season.
The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) rejected the profession of Crystal Palace against their relegation of the UEFA Europa League, the Federation announced on Monday. Due to the rules of several club ownership, UEFA’s Club Financial Control Body (CFCB) ruled that Crystal Palace could not participate in the Europa League, together with Ligue 1-side Lyon.
The American owner John Textor had ownership interests in both clubs and despite that Textor eventually sells his palace shares to Woody Johnson, the Eagles were not allowed to perform in the competition.
Due to the relegation of Crystal Palace to the Conference League, Nottingham Forest was moved to the Europa League instead.
The Eagles originally qualified for the Europa League after winning the FA Cup last May and lifted their first trophy in club history.
The team of Oliver Glasner has recently lifted their second trophy in the past four months in the past four months, which reduced the reigning English Premier League champions Liverpool with 3-2 in the penalty kicks in the community shield. The two games played a 2-2 score after 90 minutes before goalkeeper Dean Henderson made two important Shootout-Saves for the South London Club.
Crystal Palace starts his league campaign in London Rivals Chelsea on Sunday.
