The schedule of the Timberwolves does not look so different than last season. The only striking differences are that they have lost Nickeil Alexander-Walker to the Hawks and Joan Beringer 17th in the design. A player who has the opportunity to become a member of the team is Johnny Juzang. While he is a non-godaded deal, the hope is for Juzang that he can collect the last schedule of the team.
Chris Finch wants to see Johnny Juzang improve the defensive ending
Finch recently interviewed with Britt Robson from Minnpost. They discussed a multitude of wolven-related topics and Juzang was raised. In this interview, Finch outlined how the 24-year-old can make the team.
“He is a man who has a great shooting profile, who should be a better defender that there is a defensive growth for him, Finch said. He has played NBA minute for Utah. The challenge for him will be: can he connect? Can he make shots at a high level during a game?
After making his NBA debut on 28 February 2023, Juzang appeared in just 38 games during his first two seasons. It was last season that he regularly started to see playing time with Jazz. Utah was not good, and that is partly the reason why Juzang burned so much. The 6-foot-7 wing played 19.8 minutes per game in its 64 outings. He placed averages of 8.9 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.1 assists.
In 2024-25, Juzang tried to try 4.9 three per match on 37.6% of them. The previous year he went 32-77 (41.6%) from outside.
Statistics frown the defense of Juzang with jazz
The Timberwolves are proud to be one of the better defensive teams. In the three years that they have roasted Rudy Gobert, Minnesota finished in the top 10 in defensive rating (first in 2023-24).
Defense is never seen as the strong suit of Juzang and goes back to his student days. He has had a negative defensive BPM in all three of his seasons, with his -1.4 in 2024-25 so far his best.
Fans have to pay attention to that side of the floor during the preseason. If he makes the effort and shows the coaching staff that he wants to improve, Finch may have seen enough to keep Juzang nearby.
