Chiesa and Wirtz have already shared the pitch six times this season, but the Italian will know better than most from his experiences in training.
And while the £116million signing is still gathering momentum following his move from Bayer Leverkusen, he has already won over those who watch him day in and day out.
“One of the best players I’ve ever seen on the ball,” Chiesa enthused in an interview with Sky Sports.
“The way he controls the ball, the way he touches the ball, it’s just world class.
“Of course he has everything to be successful at Liverpool, nothing will stop him.
“He came from a different league. Hugo adapted quickly; [Florian] takes some time, that’s normal. But the player is just great, from what I’ve seen.
“The price tag of course, ten years ago he might have come here for maybe £50 million, £60 million – with inflation now at £100 million.
“But if we went back in time it would still have cost us a lot of money because the player is just fantastic.”
Wirtz also “one of the best” off the ball
That is the highest possible praise from a player Chiesa knows, especially considering the players he has played with in the past alongside Italy and Juventus.
However, it is not just Wirtz’s quality on the ball that makes him a crucial player for Liverpool’s future. In an interview with TNT Sports with Arne Slot, former Man City midfielder Owen Hargreaves summed up his all-round abilities.
‘Maybe he will get some criticism, people think [working] against the ball is not one of his strengths,” he explained.
“But actually he is probably one of the best players in Europe [off the ball].
“Possession won in the final third [last season]in the Bundesliga [he’s second]He is seventh in the top five European competitions and third in the Champions League.
“It’s not the fact that he can’t do it: he’s actually one of the best players at it. It’s probably just about him finding his place in Liverpool’s starting XI.”
Slot agreed: “He runs a lot, we also see that in our data. If you run a lot, you can win back a lot of balls.”
