Chelsea star Delap available for Wolves after injury

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca confirmed that Liam Delap will be ready to play against Wolves after recovering from injury.

The clubs will compete for a place in the League Cup quarter-finals at Molineux on Wednesday evening, with kick-off at 7.45pm BST.

Delap has been sidelined with a hamstring injury since the 2-0 win over Fulham at Stamford Bridge in August, but looks set to feature against Wolves. The striker returned to training last week after his recovery, but Maresca warned he is not yet ready to play a full match.

“He took part in a full session yesterday and is available for tomorrow,” the Italian said at his pre-match press conference on Tuesday.

“No, 90 minutes, he has been out for two months, so he has to gradually get back to 100 percent.”

Maresca also suggested he plans to change his starting line-up for the trip to Wolverhampton amid a mini injury crisis. Cole Palmer, Levi Colwill, Benoit Badiashile and Dario Essugo are all on the treatment table, while Malo Gusto and Mykhailo Mudryk are suspended.

“We have to rotate,” he said. “We have to protect the players because if we play with the same eleven we will have a hard time during the season. We will probably make some changes.”

“There are players who need to be protected for all kinds of reasons, so we’ll see tomorrow. And all that.” [Fernandez]Moi [Caicedo]Yoao [Pedro] – they are all players, for different reasons we have to protect them.”

Chelsea will be looking to bounce back from Saturday’s shock 2-1 defeat to Sunderland at Stamford Bridge. The loss ended their four-match winning streak in all competitions.
