Chelsea in pole position to sign Liverpool target Rogers

Chelsea are reportedly the ‘frontrunners’ to sign Liverpool target and Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers Caught offside.

While the Blues have spent a ton of money since acquiring Todd Boehly, they lack quality options on offense. Enzo Maresca has been given Liam Delap and João Pedro as striker options, although the former Ipswich Town star is out injured.

On the other hand, they bought Alejandro Garnacho and Jamie Gittens this summer to strengthen the flanks. But the duo is still young and needs time to develop; Apart from them, Chelsea have Pedro Neto as the only other winger.

In the creative midfield, Cole Palmer has established himself as an undisputed starter. However, he has been out injured in recent weeks and Facundo Buonanotte is the only specialist number 10 they have to support the Englishmen.

The Argentinian is on loan and is expected to return to Brighton at the end of the season. So it seems that Maresca plans to strengthen the CAM position by signing a versatile player.

Caught offside claim that Chelsea have identified Rogers as a key target as their recruitment team believes he has the qualities to thrive at the highest level.

Conflict

However, the west London club are not the only club interested in the 23-year-old, with Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool also keen to secure his services.

Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur have previously expressed their interest in him, but knowing that Aston Villa want around £80 million to let him leave, they have cooled their interest. Chelsea are currently the ‘front runners’, ahead of PSG and Liverpool to complete the deal.

Liverpool strengthened its CAM position by signing Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen for a huge sum this summer. However, he got off to a slow start this season.

On the other hand, Arne Slot is left with Cody Gakpo and Federico Chiesa as left options after the departure of Luis Diaz. However, neither player has been able to fill the Colombian’s void this season.

Rogers is a number 10 in character, but is also comfortable on the left flank. He is a talented player and has shown his qualities in the Premier League in recent times.

So he would be a big step forward for Chelsea or Liverpool if either club were to ultimately manage to secure his services.
