Chelsea ‘enthusiastically exploring’ dive for Dembele

Chelsea are ‘enthusiastically’ exploring the possibility of signing Paris Saint-Germain striker Ousmane Dembele, according to the Spanish newspaper Transfers.

The 28-year-old enjoyed a great season last season, helping his side win the Champions League, Ligue 1 and Coupe de France. He also guided Les Parisiens to the Club World Cup final before losing to Chelsea last summer.

Remember new hair

In 54 games across all competitions, the Frenchman scored 35 goals and registered 14 assists. As a result, he won the Ballon d’Or and the FIFA Best Player award.

However, so far this season he has failed to match last season’s form, with injury problems being one of the main reasons. Yet he has contributed 18 goals in all tournaments.

Now, Transfers states that while Dembele’s existing deal runs until 2028, he wants to continue with a new contract with a huge salary increase in the French capital.

However, Les Parisiens have no intention of meeting his demand, and Dembele’s relationship with Luis Enrique has also broken down. The Spanish boss is therefore prepared to cash in on him.

The striker has offered himself to Chelsea and the west London club are ‘enthusiastically’ exploring the possibility of signing him this summer.

Dembele is Chelsea

Formerly a right winger, Dembele flourished in his career as a centre-forward under Enrique. He is fast, technically sound, comfortable with both feet, efficient in finishing his chances and also works hard without the ball.

Chelsea decided to strengthen the frontline last summer by purchasing Liam Delap and João Pedro. Pedro has established himself as an undisputed starter by putting in impressive performances.

However, Delap has struggled to produce his best performances yet this season. Therefore, it has been suggested that Liam Rosenior’s side are open to letting him leave.

Dembele, valued at around £87 million by Transfer marketis one of the best strikers in the world and would be a big move for Chelsea if they bought him.

However, it will be interesting to see whether the west London club will ultimately make a concrete move to lure him to Stamford Bridge this summer.

Meanwhile, after a comfortable 4-0 win over Hull City in the FA Cup last week, Chelsea will face Burnley in the Premier League this weekend.
