Chelsea appoint Jacobo Ramon and Marcos Senesi as alternatives to Jeremy Jacquet

Chelsea have identified Como’s Jacobo Ramon and Bournemouth’s Marcos Senesi as alternative options if they fail to sign Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes. Ben Jacobs.

The Blues were dealt a major blow after Levi Colwill suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury at the start of the season.

Remember new hair

Although Wesley Fofana and Nathaniel Chalobah have played almost flawlessly as first choice this season, the club has suffered the consequences of not strengthening the position with an additional, experienced and reliable centre-back, as Tosin Adarabioyo and Benoit Badiashile have both underperformed when called upon.

The club are now looking to strengthen their centre-back position and have been closely linked with France U21 international Jacquet, with Football Talk citing other reports revealing Chelsea’s interest in the youngster.

According to Ben Jacobs, Jacques is now Chelsea’s ‘priority’ and the London club is in active talks with Rennes to complete a deal for the 20-year-old who is keen to move to Stamford Bridge.

However, according to the report, the Ligue 1 club is demanding a club record fee higher than the £55 million Manchester City paid to sign Jeremy Doku in August 2023.

As a result, Liam Rosenior’s side are exploring other alternative centre-back options in case they fail to land Jacques this winter.

Among the options the club are looking at is former Real Madrid academy graduate Ramon, who is worth an estimated £15 million. Transfer marketand Argentina international Senesi, Jacobs adds.

Alternative

For Ramon, the journalist reports that a deal would be difficult to realize because Madrid has a buyback clause and does not rule out the possibility of Madrid re-signing him at the end of the 2025/2026 season.

On the other hand, while Chelsea have made no move for Senesi at the time of writing, his contract at the Vitality Stadium expires at the end of the season, potentially presenting a market opportunity, according to the report.

If Chelsea are looking to bring in an experienced centre-back to complement their current options, Senesi would be a sensible option. The Argentinian has proven himself in the Premier League and his 99 Premier League appearances alone are more than the senior careers of both Jacquet and Ramon.

On top of that, there is the prospect of signing him for free next summer, or possibly for less than £19m Transfer market The valuation in January this year also makes him a more logical choice, as the other duo will likely cost triple the price.
