Charlie Woods stormed on Wednesday in the junior PGA Championship.
A week away from a missed cut at the American junior amateur, the 16-year-old Woods shot a 6-under 66 at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex in West Lafayette, Indiana. He is currently solo fourth on the Leaderboard at 7, six shots behind 2027 Auburn Lunden Esterline in the 72-HOLES event.
Playing his second round on the Kampen-Cosler course, a Pete dye design that organized the NCAA championship 2008, Woods Carded Nine Birdies. He had his round to 8 under a birdie on the par-4 15th, but he proceeded to Bogey de Par-5 16th and Par-3 17th holes before he closed with par.
Junior Ryder Cup van Woods hopes to hang a strong performance this week. Automatic places in the team of six players who will compete in Bethpage before this year’s Ryder Cup goes to the winner and second place of the Junior PGA. There is also the choice of one captain, although that to World No. 26 Amateur Luke Colton should go, provided that Colton does not end between the top two places (Colton was 3 under 36 holes).
Colton was a semi-finalist in Trinity Forest last week, where Woods 81-74 shot to miss the Match-Play cut during his second straight American junior.
Woods, a recruit from 2027 who still has to bind to a school, was eliminated last May with a victory at the Ajga’s team Taylormade Invitational, who came across a field that Colton, with a top-ranked Miles Russell and another top-50 amateur in Tyler Watts, included.
