For a while, NBA All-Star Weekend has not had the same touch or the feeling it used to be. Fans call the games boring, because players don’t take it as seriously as in the 80s, 90s and earlier 2000. The conversation about changes in all-star weekend comes up every year with former players, fans and members of the media trying to think of a new way to make things exciting.
Recently retired NBA -Superster Carmelo Anthony spoke about his show, 7 pm in BrooklynAbout how he would improve the All-Star festivities. Melo continued talking about how he thinks that only the All-Stars are participating in events such as the Skills Competition, Three-Point Shootout and Dunk competition. He went to pitch Zion Williamson’s idea, yes Morant and Anthony Edwards who participated in the Dunk competition and said: “I’m going to do what I have to do to get those guys [in the dunk contest]”
The idea that Williamson is in the Dunk competition is not a new one, and having someone like Melo -Pitch can restore the idea of excitement in the eyes of fans of New Orleans Pelicans. We have to pump the brakes at the idea that the 26-year-old superstar throws slams down during the All-Star weekend, because the time before it has passed.
It is clear that seeing Williamson in a SLAM Dunk competition would be great and Z would make the first Pelican to participate since Trey Murphy in 2023. This team now has much larger goals than before in his career.
The focus should be in the late season, no trophies
If Zion was still in year 2, year 3, definitely go for it, make some highlights and unforgettable moments. But now, in 2025-26, the focus with the Joe Dumars team should have surrounded him to win and compete in the late season, something I think Zion is well aware of.
Most of Williamson discussions have been out of season this season that develop as a leader. Part of leadership is to have insight into everyone about the role, value and importance of the team. He must understand that he is the most important player in this team, and the difference between this group is a 30-win team and a team of 45-50-win is based on his play and being healthy.
His body is already taking enough beating because of how much physicality he plays. Which means that if he would participate in a Dunk match, he would burden his body more in the only time he charged and rested during the season.
