Exciting Speedster Captain Ravishing (Donating) is back in WA, and he will start with a campaign for Harnas Racing aimed at the $ 450,000 WA Pacing Cup on December 12 when he disputes the $ 31,000 we love from our members pace over 2130m in Gloucester Park on Friday evening.
The New South Wales-Foked five-year-old is now under the care of the hugely experienced trainer-Reinsman Lindsay Harper, who welcomed him in his stables seven weeks ago.
Captain Ravishing, the most exciting Pacer in Australia two years ago, collected $ 655,110 in Prizemoney of his 13 wins and seven placements from 31 starts.
He will appear for the first time for the first time he has chased the Pacemaker and a well-beaten fourth behind Don Hugo ended in the 1609m Golden Mile in Menangle on June 14.
“Captain Ravishing has gone from one of the most promising horses in Australia to a little lost,” said Harper, the fifth person who trained the stallion.
“He is a beautiful horse, and I really like it. He is nice to work with, but I can’t predict if he can win on Friday evening. It’s a learning phase for me.”
Captain Ravishing started from the external barrier in a process of five horses in 2150 meters in Byford last Saturday morning when he was withdrawn to the last, ten lengths behind the Fleur du Marquis front tuning.
Harper lit the captain off the pens with about 800m to travel and the horse quickly went to the breeze and was not driven in the end of the second, a length of the winner, Fleur du Marquis, who rated 1.59 after the last quarter of 29.9 sec., 29.4SEC. and 28.6sec.
“He seemed fairly bad and pulled up a big state,” said Harper, who celebrated his 66th birthday on Wednesday. “But I am sure that he will run a race this week, although I will not know his preferences and antipathies. I called Clayton Tonkin (who trained Captain Ravishing in collaboration with Emma Stewart when the horse had ten starting for them in 2022 and 2023 for seven victories, two days ago) and two days ago)
“Clayton gave me a few tips about what the horse likes and doesn’t like it. This is all a learning curve for me.”
Captain Ravishing is impressed by his sparkling speed when he raced at Gloucester Park three times at the end of last year. At his first WA performance, on November 1, he won the Navy Cup of Group 3 when he started from Barrier Five and enjoyed an ideal passage, one-out and one-back, before he won with a length from fast to serious, rating 1.55.3 over 2130m. After home, the first two Placters Quality Pacers Steno, Swingband and Jawsoflincoln were.
A week later, Captain Ravishing finished fourth behind Minstrel, Mr. Smartee and Mighty Ronaldo in the 2536M WA Pacing Cup, and three weeks later he ran without cover when a fight was second on Jawsoflincoln (1.52.9) in a 1730m free.
Captain Ravishing, who starts on Friday evening with the number 3 barrier, will again clash with Mister Smartee, who starts with the external barrier in the field of Acht.
Mr. Smartee, a horses millionaire trained by Gary Hall SNR and powered by Gary Hall JNR, was resumed last Friday evening after an absence of four months when he started from Barrier Five in the 2536m Howard Porter Memorial and racet without coverage over the last 1300m and ended a well-brought fourth behind the Frontrot.
“Mr. Smartee went pretty well,” said Hall JNR. “However, this will not be a walk in the park, but you would like to think that his class will bring him there (win).”
Adding interest in the race will be the return after spells of Top-Flight Mare Penny Black (Barrier Five) and Swingband (Barrier Seven), as well as Lusaka, who start his first appearance of Barrier Six for four weeks.
Lusaka, trained by Greg and Skye Bond, will be handled by Deni Roberts, who said that five-year-old in New Zealand was able to show a strong show. “He finished second until the beautiful storm two start ago and is going to find out well enough,” said Roberts. “We don’t have the best draw, but hopefully they will go crazy and Lusaka will run over the top.”
