The Vancouver Canucks entered the low season with a clear goal: add a second-line center to strengthen their top-six forward group. However, that goal still has to be achieved and it seems more and more like they are stuck on their way to the season with what they have.

Trading activity about the NHL has been slow and the Canucks have shown minimally interest in staying unlimited free agents, including Jack Roslovic. That leaves few options, but Patrick Johnston of the province notes that there might be a long-shot option on the table.

Mason Mctavish can be a target for the Canucks

“It will be expensive, but it will also be very expensive not to get it,” said President of Hockey Operations Jim Rutherford in April. The player Johnston Hints that Vancouver might look at is Anaheim Ducks Center and non -signed RFA Mason McTavish.

To date, Vancouver’s are two larger additions outside the season Wingers who do not go into the second-line vacancy-evander Kane and defender Pierre-Olivier Joseph. That has placed a young, talented center Mason Mctavish on the radar of the Canucks. The 22-year-old is seen as a potential top-six contribution with the possibility of switching between Kane and Conor Garland. The problem is that nobody seems to know what is going on between McTavish and the ducks.

There is interest from multiple teams such as Anaheim commercial offers, but the ducks want to have MCTavish signed. The bottleneck is term because GM Pat Verbeek does not like to go in the long term. Mctavish wants what he thinks he has earned on the basis of comparisons in a rising salary cap environment.

Could the Canucks land MCTavish?

Things are warm between the ducks and the McTavish camp, but how long can be seen. It was reported that McTavish tried to get an offering magazine, but it didn’t help. Now he waits. This situation cannot drag away much longer before questions are asked about his future there. The canucks can and will be ready.

However, as Rutherford said, the organization is aware that the acquisition and signing of McTavish will be an expensive decision. They will have to give up important pieces in an exchange, plus also a contract offer that MCTavish is inclined to sign.

There is little to suggest that everything on this front is on hands. Unless the Canucks take a step during the training camp or the preseason, their projected line -up appears. Elias Pettersson would center Brock Booter and Jake Debruisk on the first line, while Chytil would take the second line middle role between Kane and Garland, with Raty probably concentrated the third line.
