Canada and Egypt show early spark in Fort Wayne < World ParaVolley

Canadian women and Egyptian men, both 2023 World Cup silver medalists, started their new campaign in style on Sunday, recording outright victories as the 2025 World ParaVolley Sitting Volleyball World Cup opened at the Turnstone Center in Fort Wayne, Indiana in the United States.

The women’s competition started with Canada recording a 3-0 (25-19, 25-21, 25-18) victory over Germany. The North Americans, second at the 2023 edition in Cairo, achieved a composed result to start their tournament well.

Brazilthe 2023 bronze medalist, followed by a 3-0 (25-9, 25-17, 25-16) win against the Netherlands. The South American side maintained control throughout all three sets to start the campaign on a positive note.

The day ended with Italy beat hosts United States 3-2 (18-25, 18-25, 25-22, 25-17, 16-14), the only five-set match on the women’s side. The result gave Italy a strong opening victory, while the United States earned a point after a closely contested finish.

In the men’s pool A match, Kazakhstan opened with a 3-0 (25-15, 25-23, 25-10) win against Italy.

The United Stateswho finished sixth at the 2023 edition in Cairo, then took to the court for the first time in front of their home supporters. The hosts recorded a 3-0 (25-23, 25-14, 25-21) win over Thailand to start their home season strongly.

Pool A continued with Poland beat Canada 3-1 (31-29, 25-13, 23-25, 25-23) and Croatia achieving a 3-0 (25-15, 25-11, 25-16) victory Japan.

In group B, Brazilwho finished in fifth place at the previous World Cup, started strongly with a 3-0 (25-6, 25-2, 25-7) win to open their campaign. 2023 Silver Medalists Egypt followed by a 3-0 (25-4, 25-6, 25-6) result that matched that dominance. Both sides started their World Cup campaigns in convincing form, continuing the consistency that defined their podium finishes in Cairo.

The evening session saw France edge Italy 3-2 (22-25, 25-14, 25-21, 23-25, 17-15) in the men’s match of the day, while The Netherlands rounded out the program with a 3-0 (25-9, 25-12, 25-14) win over Australia.

The tournament continues Monday with another full day of men’s and women’s preliminary round matches at the Turnstone Center.
