The first phase of the NHL play-offs of 2024-25 is over. What started as a competition with 16 teams is now up to four, and there are only two series left before the fans get their Stanley Cup finalists. So, while we go to the NHL Conference Finals, four teams with very different trajectories have come by everyone. However, you could say that Connor McDavid and Co. have had the most polarizing journey so far.
After dropping two back-to-back matches against the long-term NHL Playoff rivals, the La Kings, things looked grim. While they won Game 3, the Oilers Game 4 lost and started believing the kings. Since that loss, however, Edmonton turned the script upside down and has had six consecutive comeback-From-Behind victories. And just when it seemed as if Vegas had finally discovered the oilers, they again defeated the chances with two Shutout victories to reach the final of the conference. Yet the coast is not clear.
In addition to Dallas, the biggest threat to the Stanley Cup dreams of the Oilers is one curse that has not been able to beat a team. “Reminder. No player with an AAV of more than $ 10 million has ever won the Stanley Cup. Depth wins,” Posted SDPN executing producer Drew Livingstone. What is more? None of the other three teams have players who match Connor McDavid’s $ 12.5 million AAV (average annual value).

“Dallas has none. Carolina has none. FLA has players directly in the nose. Only Edmonton has someone of more than 10 meters,” Livingstone again placed for those who argued the players such as Jack Eichel, Aleksander Barkov and Sergei Bobrovsky, had done it earlier. In the meantime, Livingston argued that none of $ 10 million earlier had won a Stanley Cup. Eichel won it in 2023, while Bobrovsky and Barkov won in 2024.
Memory.

While all three NHL icons won the Stanley Cup, their AAV descended from $ 10,000,000 when they hoist the cup. Dallas Stars’ players such as Jamie Benn (AAV – $ 9,500,000) and Tyler Seguin (AAV – $ 9,850,000) also do not match. So can Connor McDavid beat the curse? Unfortunately, the chances are stacked against the star of the oilers.

The trends are not preferred by Connor McDavid
One team has already fallen from another long-term NHL-Playoff-curse that is in the running for 15 years. You would be right if you were the President Trophy-winning Winnipeg jets who fell into round 2 against Dallas in round 2. The trophy-winning team of the last president to win the Stanley Cup was the Chicago Blackhawks in 2013.
While in their first year as a trophy winners of the Dallas stars against the Dallas stars, the jets, last year, were proven too much for the side. Although the star of Jets Mark Scheifele loses his father for hours before the game underlined their loss, the curse is still standing. What is more? The predictions are also not the way edmonton.

Money Puck places the defending champion for the peloton with a chance of 50.1% to make the final and a 28.8% chance to win everything. In the meantime, last year’s second place is in 4th place with a chance of 45% to make the play-offs and 18.2% chance to win the Stanley Cup. On the other hand, these are just predictions, and Money Puck had Toronto as front runners at one point.

That said, the biggest obstacle in the way of Connor McDavid is that he could not overcome this curse last year. McDavid signed his $ 12.5 million AAV contract in 2017 and made it all the way to the Panthers last year. So the question is: can the NHL icon do it if it still gets a recording? Well, the oilers must first come through Dallas before we can find an answer.
