If the Yankees need a game 3 -starter against the Red Sox, they will hand over the ball to their Rookie Flamethrower.
Cam Schlittler would follow Max Fried and Carlos Rodón in the Wild-Card series, manager Aaron Boone said Monday and Stold it had become clear that the right-handed person had earned the chance.
“I have faith in one of our five starters who go outside, but I feel that Cam is the man to get that ball in game 3,” said Boone after the Yankees succeeded in the Bronx on Monday.
If the Yankees wipe the Red Sox, it would probably mean that Schlittler would get the ball for game 1 of the ALS against the Blue Jays.
But they have to come first.
After starting the year in Double-A, Schlittler was called to the Big Leagues in July after it became clear that Clarke Schmidt needed Tommy John operation.
The 24-year-old took the opportunity and ran with it, with an ERA of 2.96 over 14 Starts and 84 Strikeouts in 73 innings.
With Luis Gil who started Game 162 on Sunday and probably not in the schedule of the Wild-Card Series-Won Schlittler, in essence, the starting role over Warren, who could still make the schedule as a reliever, although Boone said they were still completing those decisions from Monday afternoon.

Boone and Alex Cora are good friends, who date from their time at ESPN together, but the Red SOX manager is 4-1 against his Yankees counterpart in the play-offs and 24-15 against him in the last three regular seasons.
“I think he’s really good,” said Boone. “They play the game in the game very well. I think he is a really good leader. I think his team embodies who he is, and I think he is doing very well to help and define the culture there. Of course they have undergone a few difficult years, but he has always been the clear leader of that group.”
After his club had conquered a play -off place this weekend, Cora claimed that everyone who said they thought the Red Sox was a play -off -team in February: “That is F -King Bulls -T.” Boone seemed to get a kick from that.
“I think he played ‘the little engine that could have’ a little ‘there,” said Boone with a grin. “I think many people knew that the Red Sox was coming this year. But I think he is one of the game really good.”
Lucas Giolito is no longer in the game to be the game 3 Red Sox starter, because the right-handed person will be out of the selection while he has to deal with an elbow injury, Cora said Monday.
