The Rookie camp of the Calgary Flames has now been officially packed. The organization goes on NHL for the season camps, and this means that many junior-aged Calgary Flames prospects are now going back to their teams.
The CHL, Junior A and European competitions are now also underway, which means that seasons have officially started in the Prospect Pool of Flames.
Welcome to the first iteration of the win columns, Calgary Flames Prospect Round-Up.
Welcome to the prospect update of the TWC Calgary Flames. Every week we will dive into how the Flames prospects have done in their respective competitions, along with a function on one striking prospect in the Calgary system. We have defined a prospect as a skater that has played less than 65 NHL games and is less than 25 years old.
Yan Matveiko, F, Krasnaya Armiya Moskva (MHL)
Born in 2006, 7th Rounder from the NHL design of 2025, his 2025-26 season started with Sterk in the Russian Junior League. The 6’1 Forward thrives as a playmaker and a workhorse for Krasnaya Armiya Moskva, on average 17:29 toi per match this season.
The Matveiko game is emphasized by strong senses (good space creation, high -quality timing and attacking instincts). A high level of competition due to a remarkable engine, a higher playing involvement and pressure effort. Strong Puck skills are also clear in terms of pass accuracy, variety and game efforts.
His most important barriers to play are sub -average skates (speed, mechanics and lane manipulation), and physicality, while young Russian was often pushed off the puck or shown inefficient.
In general, his NHL potential remains doubtful, but he has shown significant growth early in his technically long D+ two-season career, with considerable growth in physicality and balance, two of his biggest question marks this time last year.
Calgary Flames Prospect updates

- The Rapid City-Founded club opens their regular season on its way to play the Kansas City Mavericks on 17 October.
Europe
- Flames Defense Prospect Jacob Leander has had an interesting start to his season and achieved 29 penalty minutes at just four games. Apart from discipline, this season the Swede seems ready to be a leader of the backend for HV71 U20.
- Theo Stockselius is on the way to a hot start in the Swedish U20 and places six assists about four games. A few elements that led him to be drawn up are his smart senses, puck skills of a high-end playmaker and physical elements. He should be a difference for Djurgårdens as U20 this season.
NCAA
- The NCAA starts late compared to other competitions, but this year the Flames have a total of nine players playing in the NCAA, and one prospect that plays in the USHL. This is the first season in which CHL players are now eligible to play in the NCAA, so expect this early CHL-NCAA-Stududepad in the future.
OHL
- OHL’s regular season started on September 19. The Flames have only one prospect within the competition, because the majority of the Calgary Flames -front views that were there last season had switched to the NCAA this year.
- Flames fans still have to keep an eye on before 2024 Second Round Pick, Vooruit Jacob Battaglia of the Kingston Frontenacs.
WHL
- The regular season started on September 19. There are two Calgary Flames front views in the competition this year, 2005 in Calgary Hitmen defender Axel Hurtig and Saskatoon Blades Forward Hunter Laing.

- Yegorov appeared in two games last week and stopped 74 of the 81 shots with which he was confronted. Look for the young goalkeeper to become more comfortable as the season progresses.
- 2025 7th-rounder Yan Matveiko has a strong start of the 2025-2026 campaign and has so far places nine points over eight games.
