The training aids behind the breakthrough of Viktor HOVOLAND

It is no secret that Viktor HOVOLAND has put on the PGA Tour on the edge of Superstardom during his last few seasons. With a victory over the Valspar Championship and a third place at the US Open, he has shown moments of greatness but many Golffans would agree that he has not yet completely touched his ceiling.

But that can change.

In a video now deleted by the social media team from Team Europe, HOVOLAND was imprisoned with teammate, Shane Lowry, enthusiastic about his game and the work he had done for Friday’s first round games.

“That was a good one on the range. I haven’t had a session for two years,” said HOVOLAND De Irishman, whose face appeared like a Christmas tree at the news.

Although HOVOLAND does not give away all the details, images of his Monday range session (below) may offer a crucial look at what clicks in the sevenfold swing of PGA Tour Champion. The key? A simple training aid made by George Gankas, a wave top 100 teacher.

The training aid that HOVOLAND uses is called the Gbox and in a Video about the productGankas explains that this simple training aid is designed to help players rotate well.

“When I built the Gbox, I did it so that a player could end their turn. That creates more speed, better low point and the opportunity to return through the ball with the right pivot point,” he says.

The result? More facial control, which means better starting lines.

How the Gbox works

The use of the device is simple – strap just on the Velcro belt and start waving. But to really unlock the benefits, you must understand how it works. In order to get a clearer picture of the Gbox in action, I contacted the wave top 100 teacher Joe Plecker for his insight.

“This device, from what I can see, is what we would call negative feedback,” says Plecker.

In essence, he says, tries to swing you without touching anything. If you hit the box, you know that you are sliding into old habits and swing patterns. The progress is when you can consistently avoid the box.

So how does this HOVOLAND or even golfers like you?

Plecker explains that with the Gbox that is tied to your trail hip, you receive direct feedback on your club shaft position during the swing. If you can wave without touching the box, you rot well and keep the axle above your trail forear surface.

But if you make contact with the box, that is a red flag: your club axis is probably too far at the bottom, often a result of incorrect rotation. In most cases it is a sign that you have brought the club too far in.

And what HOVOLAND says in the clip above, it is safe to assume that it is what he worked on during his access session.

“I just feel that everything must be at the front,” says HOVOLAND.

Plecker says that when HOVOLAND rotates well and holds his shaft above his trail forearm surface, he is able to minimize the variability of the club face that usually causes a two -way scent. Although the version of HOVOLAND of a two -way mass is much less extreme than that of the average amateur, the ability to deliver a square club face with impact makes shot form more predictable. That is especially valuable in a Ryder setting, where precision and control under pressure are everything.

Improved rotation also increases the sequencing of HOVOLAND, so that he can effectively use ground forces and that it has stored energy more efficiently. The result is added speed without added effort – a huge advantage when navigating the long layout from Bethpage Black and closed, that rough punishment.

Coordinate the entire weekend to see how the new swing of HOVOLAND performs and to see if Team USA can defend their turf against Europeans.

Gbox – Adults

The adult Gbox contains a Velcro belt and two 6 ″ x6 ″ x6 ″ (large) G boxes. The belt is designed to match young adults, adults, seniors and more professional golfers with a minimum size of 28 inches and maximum size of 52 inch around the waist. Measure your waist above your hip line. One box has a white stripe and each is made of versatile neoprene. With a Velcro mount on the back of the boxes you can attach them to the belt to your seam line.
