Detroit – The Seattle Mariners are on the edge of a place in the Al Championship Series for the first time in 24 years.
Cal Raleigh hit a two-run Homer, Eugenio Suárez and JP Crawford had solo shots and Seattle defeated the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday evening with 8-4 to take a 2-1 lead in the Al Division series.
The Mariners are in a victory of their first already Championship series since 2001. Their first chance to get ahead is on Wednesday afternoon in Game 4 in Comerica Park and if necessary waits on Friday in Seattle in Seattle for a decisive game 5.
“The Seattle Mariners deserve where we are now,” Suárez said.
Detroit manager AJ Hinch said he would not count his team after the Resolve had shown it after a historic collapse in the regular season and sent back by eliminating Cleveland in an already wild card series and then won Game 1 against Seattle.
“We have had to play more and more back-to-the-wall-type games,” said Hinch. “I know our boys will be ready.”
Logan Gilbert van Seattle was one point on four hits while he hit seven and did not walk over six innings.
“I can’t say enough about what Logan did,” said Mariners manager than Wilson. “Just an incredible outing. He had everything going on.”
Raleigh, who had a Major League-High 60 Homers during the regular season, hit a homer of 391 feet, two-run to Left-Midden in the ninth to bring the score to 8-1.
The attacking tigers were limited to four hits and one running through eight innings before they suddenly generated a little attack in the ninth against Caleb Ferguson, who allowed three points on three hits and a walk without getting one out.
Spencer Torkelson hit a two-run Double and Andy Ibanez followed with an RBI single.
All-Star Closer Andres Munoz arrived with one and no outs and ended the comeback hop of Detroit with a fly-out and game-end doubles.
Jack Flaherty from Detroit lasted only 3 ¹/₃ Innings, so that four runs (three earned) left on four hits and three free runs.
Seattle scored two points in the third after starting the inning with three hits and a walk.
Victor Robles led away with a double and scored on an error, which was credited to the left field player Riley Greene for a wandering throw that could have been on a bouncing by catcher Dillon Dingler.
“A bit of a malfunction,” said Hinch.
The RBI single from Randy Arozarena placed the Mariners 2-0 ahead in the third.
Suárez sent a shot of 422 feet to the left in the fourth to bring the score to 3-0. Raleigh’s two-out RBI-Single in the inning gave Seattle a four-run pillow.
The Tigers hoped that their first home game in two-plus weeks would make them more comfortable on the record, but it didn’t help and they lost an eighth directly in Comerica Park.
Detroit finally scored in the fifth on the choice of Kerry Carpenter’s Fielder about what was possibly an inning-ending doubles. Crawford’s Worp from the second base pulled the first baseman Josh Naylor from the bag and he did not secure the ball in his glove, allowing Dingler to score.
Crawford’s Homer in the sixth recovered Seattle lead in Seattle.
The Tigers allowed the Mariners to score a second undeserved point in the eighth inning after Carpenter had dropped the fly in Right Field of Victor Robles, allowing Luke Raley to continue to third place and score on Crawford’s Sacrifice Fly.
