Busan Friday: Race-by-Race Preview (November 28)

The Grand Prix weekend starts on Sunday in Busan with 9 races from 11:15 AM to 6:00 PM. Here are the previews:

Busan Race 1: Class 6 (1200M) Special Weight A/KRW 45 million

Junior girl mares with seven of the twelve racing for the first time. (11) BORYEONGUI SINYONG debuted in August when she came from pace to dead-heat for 3^rd place more than 1000M. She hasn’t raced since, but last Saturday she won a trial, and as long as she hasn’t abandoned her race there, she can win it. (5) MOMENTUM ran 5^e of twelve on debut, skilful racing and like all examples raced before, they should have come for the experience. As for the first timers: (2) POWERFUL RUBY led all the way to win her trial in a reasonable amount of time. She is very good at leading here and can go far. (4) VICTORIA CHUKJE and (3) GOLDEN TIARA also ran well in their trials and if they bring that form to the races they can get to the finish.

Busan Race 2: Class 4 (1200M) Special Weight A/KRW 75 Million

More youth girls, this one for the import and open to the boys (5) SENSATIONAL WIN didn’t do much on debut, but was a much improved 2^i.e at start two over this distance on November 7^ecoming from the pace and beating two of the other experienced here. Third, he can have a fitness advantage and go one step further. (1) GYEONGBOK STREGA came from the widest gate and led his second trial on October 25^e and eventually just narrowly cross the line at the front. He gets a much better draw for his debut and the Maximum Security colt can put on a daring show for new trainer Kim Hye-sun. (6) SKY WIN WIN was a fair 6^e over 1400 million at debut and can improve. (2) TYCANTHUNDER and (3) MR. PRIME both did well in their trials, the latter in the same heat as Gyeongbok Strega and both could be in the mix.

Busan Race 3: Class 6 (1400M) Special Weight A/KRW 30 million

Definitely wide open girl. (4) VICTORY STORY has six top four finishes from eight attempts and comes in at best 2 so far^i.e more than 1300 million on November 2^i.ewho came off the pace and defeated three of today’s rivals. He reaches 1400M for the first time and can go one step further. (5) JEONGMUN FELIX returned from six months’ absence and ran 5^e from a wide gate on November 7^e more than 1200 million. He should dress fitter for that run, he pulls much better and can get much closer today. (6) YONGBI SHARK was 5^e behind Victory Story on November 2^i.e to have led. He can lead again and go a long way. (12) SERYEONDOENWISUN and (11) MAGIC SHOW among many other opportunities.

Busan Race 4: Handicap Class 5 (1400M) / KRW 45 million

A clearer favorite in this one. (4) TOHAMSAN DRAGON ran 2^i.e in his first two starts before winning his first attempt in this class over 1300M on October 31^st if you tour all the way around. He weighs 3 kg and is a little higher in the trip, but he is moving well to lead again and in this company he can follow. (9) FANTASTIC EAGLE took his win at start number two in the first company in October before finishing fifth^e behind Tohamsan Dragon last time. Seo Seung-un returns to the mountain here and with a weight swing he can get closer. (8) GLOBAL FORCE has yet to win, but after a few near misses is top of its class, also at this distance on October 31^st. She is less heavy and can compete for places here. (1) MAGIC ELEVEN and (5) MUHAN NAREUSHA are others who are hunting the minors.

Busan Race 5: Handicap Class 5 (1300M) / KRW 45 million

Only mares and two striking specimens. (11) WORLD DANCER CAT came off the pace over this distance on his debut on October 17^e to win comfortably. She’s higher in class but weighs less, Franco stays on and she can go back-to-back. It is the experience over the distance that gives her an edge over (6) ROAD TO CLEO, who will probably be the favorite. She was a standout winner over 1000m on her debut on the same day, starting steadily before quickly joining the fray in the straight. Higher in class and higher in journey, she measures up on both counts. (8) GRAND TREE won at start two in September at 1200M before running 3^rd in a very similar class and distance race to this one on October 26^e when you get off pace. She weighs only 1 kg and can be competitive. (10) GLOBAL HEROINE and (2) QUEENS DRAGON others in frame.

Busan Race 6: Handicap Class 5 (1200M) / KRW 45 million

(7) TWIN RAINBOW scored at start number two in a filly over 1000M in August and then had almost three months off before returning with a good 2^i.e from the widest gate in this class and distance on November 7^e. She can dress fitter here, she’ll be at or close to the pace, and she’s the one to beat. (10) MEGA PLAY and (11) GOOGLE CAR came home 1^st and 2^i.e respectively when they played each other in this class and distance on November 2^i.e. There’s a 2kg weight swing in Google Car’s favor this time, but both can get to the finish here. (5) NEW LEADER only mixes her form on her 3^rd place two starts back with some interest. Form drops off quickly after that one, so given his draw the veteran (2) DAEHOMA might be able to sneak in some small change.

Busan Race 7: Handicap Class 4 (1400M) / KRW 60 million

(11) ROAD TO PARTY was winner in this class over 1200M in August before running 2^i.e at this distance in September. On October 24, he shunned the Class 3 stumps^e and ran a very solid 4^e and while he’s getting knocked down by 6kg for getting back into class, he could be too good here. (1) ROAD TO SPRING is the hazard for the same owner. She was a leading winner at 1200 million on October 17^e and while she is in class and traveling, she is less heavy, beautifully drawn, and can repeat. (9) NAEPYEON does not win out of turn, but rarely runs a bad race and should be around the placings again. (5) WATER DRAGON and (6) ONE WAY among numerous others in the money frame.

Busan Race 8: Handicap Class 4 (1800M) / KRW 60 million

(5) DOCTOR CHRIS has two wins and two 2s^i.e placing four starts with his last arrival at this distance on October 24^e when he showed us all around. He is doing well in his class and although he does not lose much weight, he seems to have a lot of potential and can win again. That means you have to beat the likely strong betting favorite (1) MATONGNYEONG. He was the winner in this class and distance at the end of September and then ran 2^i.e on October 26^e because I raced on pace the whole time. He’s got his fair share of weight here, but he’s drawing well to be on pace and Seo Seung-un’s engagement for the first time will further lower his price. (8) OASIS WINNER defeated three on his way to a class and distance 2^i.e on October 31^st and although he weighs 2 kg, he can sit in this. (4) CARIBBEAN BAY and (6) ARONDIGHT among other opportunities.

Busan Race 9: Handicap Class 3 (1800M) / KRW 75 million

(9) YOUNG SKYWALKER is coming off a rather optimistic swing at the G1 President’s Cup in Seoul last month. Before that he was 3^rd in the Minister’s Cup, the final leg of the Triple Crown, and was then winner of Class 4 and runner-up of Class 3 over that distance. Today in the shallow end he should have way too much. (3) BEOLGYO MASULSA has won two of his last three and is therefore in class today. He can race at pace, but he has a very strong finish and under light weight he is the biggest danger. (2) YOUR TURN has been given two very difficult assignments since returning after seven months and this should be much more appropriate. (7) SEOBU VISION and (8) RAON THE MASKE the other big chances in a good final.
