Approximately 150,000 of the 17 million Malaysians who are eligible for the Budi Madani Ron 95 (Budi95) Gasoline subsidy still have to update their 12-digit Mykad number in their driving permits, said Transport Minister Anthony Loke, reported The star.

“Different categories of people still have to update their driving licenses with the 12-digit Mykad number. They include those of old identity card numbers, birth certificate numbers and identification numbers of police and army that did not switch to civil numbers about driving license after retirement,” said Loke.

Malaysians in these categories are encouraged to update their licenses with the 12-digit Mykad number because the system cannot recognize their licenses if they have registered with their old numbers, the Minister of Transport continued.

To help, the Road Transport Department (JPJ) will open special counters for those who still have to update their 12-digit Mykad number, without imposed compensation, but applicants must be present to update their thumb print, said Loke.

As soon as the driver’s license has been updated with the 12-digit Mykad number without other problems, the information is updated weekly in the Budi95 system with the Ministry of Finance, the Minister of Transport said.

In the meantime, there has been an increase in the granting of a driver’s license of 17,000 extensions to 22,000 extensions daily, since the Ministry of Finance announced the requirement for a valid driver’s license to be eligible for Budi95, said Loke.

The Budi Madani Ron 95 website went online on 25 September prior to the targeted subsidy rollout, so that Malaysians can check for their suitability for subsidized Ron95 Benzine. Last week the Ministry of Finance stated that a person may not use mykad from another for the purchase of subsidized Ron95 Benzine.
