Manchester United ended a nine-year wait for a win at Anfield on Sunday with a 2-1 victory over Liverpool in the Premier League.
There was pessimism going into the match, partly due to Ruben Amorim’s selection calls, but they worked brilliantly as Harry Maguire scored the winner.
In addition, the head coach also got the monkey off his back as he claimed back-to-back wins in the English top flight for the first time.
The combination of Amad and Bryan Mbeumo on the right opened the floodgates as the Cameroonian scored inside the first minute at the Kop End.
Bryan Mbeumo on his response to Liverpool fans
After the match, the 26-year-old was asked how victory felt given the hostile atmosphere, and he had a great answer ready.

“It’s great, of course. The atmosphere was crazy from the beginning to the end. We played a good match and were very compact. We were together from the start and it was very important to win today,” he said. IN TV.
“It felt really good to score because they (Liverpool fans at the Kop) were shouting and booing from the start. So to score for them and see them all calm was quite good. But I think today it’s more of a team win.”
The Cameroon international is no stranger to a hostile reception when he joined Liverpool as a Brentford player, but he could sense how much bigger the match was given the reaction he received before the match had even started.
Great for winning in a hostile environment
“Yes, 100 percent. From the warm-up it was quite hostile. We could feel it every time we had the ball. So this win was something special.”
Bryan Mbeumo was quick to praise the head coach, who has been under considerable control this season. And he also hoped that after breaking the Anfield jinx, the players would continue in the same vein.
“It’s our second win in a row. It will help build a lot of confidence, and it was important to win for the group, especially to do it here.”
The twenty-time champions of the English league have Brighton and Hove Albion next, another difficult match. But expectations will be high and they should not let this momentum flag.
