😫 Five things to know Thursday
- It is unlikely that Brock Purdy will play for the 49 people on Sunday. Start by warming up your arm, Mac Jones. Coach Kyle Shanahan said Purdy is a “long shot” to play in the 49ers’ week 2 matchup against the Saints. Purdy is from week 1 and has to do with injuries to his shoulder and toe, and he could be missed for up to five weeks. With Georgie Kittle now on IR, San Francisco has already been attacked.
- Anthony Rizzo announced that he will retire like a cub. Rizzo, one of the most important members of the World Series team of 2016, will remain a cub forever while he announced his retirement on Wednesday. In his 10 seasons with Chicago, Rizzo .272/372/.489 with 242 home runs and 784 RBI. Given what Rizzo did for the Cubs, should the team retire his no. 44?
- Cowboys CB Daron BLAND could miss several weeks with a foot injury. Dallas will be shortened in secondary in the secondary in the near future, but there is good news. Bland’s injury is considered less serious than the stress fracture that forced him to miss the first 10 games of last season. It should also help that the exhausted cowboys -secondary Russell Wilson encounters week 2.
- Adam Silver addressed the NBA investigation into Kawhi Leonard and the clippers. The NBA Commissioner said he will have the investigation follow his course. When the clutter has hunted the salary cap, Silver said that his “powers” are wide in terms of punishment. Sounds rather ominous!
- The NCAA has permanently forbidden three players to gamble. Three college basketball players from Fresno State and San Jose State – Mykell Robinson, Steven Vasquez and Jalen Weave – had permanently withdrawn their suitability for violating the NCAA gambling policy. The trio devised a schedule to place bets on each other’s individual players.
📈 Don’t miss this: NFL QB Power Rankings

Fans (including myself) love a good Quarterback debate, and there are plenty to get after week 1 in the NFL. Fortunately for all of us, Cody Benjamin let us know whose stock is discussed and whose Down is in his latest edition of the QB Power Rankings.
It can be easy to respond exaggerated after just one game … But on the other side … did Justin Fields Light it or what?! All fields did the Stealers‘Defense with his arm and legs, and that makes him the largest riser tube in this week’s ranking, and jumps nine places to No. 16.
- Benjamin: “The biggest surprise of the Steelers-Jets opener was perhaps fields that are stable with Rodgers. Not only was he as usual explosive, but he also showed up like a situational deep pitcher.”
Unfortunately it can’t all be good. If Fields climb so high, someone has to fall. Enter Stay behind. The Dolphins had an outright miserable season opener against the FoalAnd Tagovailoa was in the middle of only 114 yards over and three total turnover. He is the biggest faller of this week – all the way to no. 28.
- Benjamin: “Yikes. Tagovailoa has the accuracy of the Pro Bowl caliber. Unfortunately, he looked just like panic when he was once against every appearance of pressure in week 1. He also does not seem aware of his own tendencies.”
Check out the full ranking (who have a new No. 1), and certainly view the abundance of other NFL content that our team cooks:
🏈 Vols satisfied with Joey Aguilar-Nico Iamaleava ‘Swap’

Six months ago, if someone told you no. 15 Tennessee would no. 6 host Georgia In week 3 that would have been no surprise. When that person told you Joey Aguilar Would be the starting quarterback of the volunteers, you might have drawn an eyebrow.
After the spring practice, Tennessee was thrown in front of a loop when a zero conflict led to a star quarterback Nico Iamaleava split in UCLA. In what came down on an exchange, Aguilar left the Bruins for the Vols. At the time that looked like a crooked deal.
Sources within the Tennessee program spoke with our insiders from the University FootballAnd they think that trade might still be crooked. Just not the way someone expected.
“In retrospect we are good (if someone said):” Would you do this everywhere? ” I think everyone would be: ‘We have Joey?
Through two games, albeit against a few tomato matches, it is difficult to argue with the results. Chris Hummer has the key numbers.
- Hummer: “Tennessee is on the 32nd National in explosive passing, so far in 2025 – despite the ranking of 125th National in drop percentage – and Aguilar appears to be much more accurate in the medium (71.3%) and deep (57.1%) areas of the field.”
Although it carries red, Georgia is not a tomato tin. In the past eight years, and especially under coach Josh Heupel” Tennessee has one Kirby Smart problem (Shameless self -promotion). Is Aguilar she man to help them solve it? We will discover it in just over 48 hours.
⚾ Can the Yankees already win it?

Like things stand out, the Yankees are three games behind the Blue Jays With 17 games left. Can they close that gorge and conquer the Al East Crown? Mike Axisa Pigeon in that question while the MLB playoff -race reaches a crescendo.
One thing that works against New York is the fact that Toronto has the Tiebreaker. So the Yanks must essentially make four games on their divisions. Although it is difficult, it is not impossible, although it can be impossible as the Bronx bombers cannot have their bull pen sorted out.
- Axisa: “New York’s Bullpen is in 21st place in Era (4.51) and 21st in Win likelihood added (min-0.83) since the Trade Deadline. David Bednar Has gone so closer and great, but Camilo Doval has been relegated from high leverage and Jake Bird was relegated to Triple-A after just three performances. The Yankees went 1 by 3 with Deadline Bullpen adds and that is not good. “
It did not help that the Yankees were shot by the Tigers for a second consecutive game last night, but the Blue Jays And Red SOx Also lost. The only thing that was really lost was time.
The Yankees have a crucial three-game series with the Red Sox coming up this weekend, but afterwards, but afterwards The runway is clear. New York closes the regular season with the Twins” Orioles (twice) and White. Now it is up to the Yanks to use it.
