The Bewers announced that left -handed Jose Quintana was posted on the 15-day wounded list, retroactively on September 15, due to a left calf tribe. Right -handed Nick Mears has recovered from the 15-day IL as the corresponding movement.
Quintana started Sunday’s game against the cardinals. He was drawn after throwing 67 throws over four innings after he had allowed three points earned. After the game, manager Pat Murphy told members of the media that Quintana had been drawn because of a calf injury, adding that the Lefty was in a walking shoe and needed an MRI.
The Bewers needed for a few days to see how Quintana’s calf reacted, but apparently decided that he should sit for a while longer. Even with the back dating, his regular season is over. He ends the year with a 3.96 run average in 131 2/3 innings, although his underlying figures are slightly less impressive than that time. His running speed of 9% and 43.3% ground ball percentage are almost average, but he only spent 16% of the batters. A low .259 stroke average on balls in the game seemed to help him, and that is why his 4.83 FIP and 5.05 Siera are both about a run higher than his era.
Even before the injury, Quintana did not find a meaningful role for Milwaukee in October. With the off-days in the late season, teams can only trust three or four starters instead of the usual five or six. In the short term, the brewers are still in a good position. They have already dressed a play -off place and very probably seem to get a Bye through the first round. They are currently 4.5 games in the Cubs in the Centrale. To complete the task, they must replace Quintana in the rotation for the short term. They have Woodruff, priest and misiorowski who take the ball in the next three games. Peralta started yesterday and will not be available at normal peace on Saturday. Milwaukee only has an off-day on the 25th next Thursday.
Chad Patrick has been successful this year as a starter, but he is currently in the Bullpen. His two most recent performances were from the Single-Inning variety, but he already threw 4 1/3 innings in September 9, so maybe he could cover multiple innings. It is a somewhat similar situation with boys like Erick Fedde And Tobias Myerswho started what have done but have been more recently in shorter stints.
Another option to help fairly quickly is Robert GasserIt is approaching a return of the Tommy John operation last summer. He was restored from the IL at the end of August, but was chosen for the minors. Most of his recent Minor League trips have been around three innings, with intervals of three days or so. It will not be available for a traditional start, but can treat a few frames in a certain capacity. “I think you’ll see him soon,” said Murphy today, per Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
Returning to Quintana, he will probably try to get healthy for the late season. Assuming that the Brewers eventually secure a Bye through the WildcardRonde, he has more than two weeks until the division series starts. As mentioned, the brewers probably don’t need him in their rotation after the season, although an injury to one of the other arms can always change. Even if he doesn’t have to start, he might be able to work from the Milwaukee bullpen.
