Bowman explains the blueprint of oilers for the 2025-26 season

The Edmonton Oilers officially opened the Hoofdkamp and General Director Stan Bowman on Wednesday with the media and showed the plans of the team for the rest of the summer and the 2025-26 season. Bowman provided insight into contract discussions with Connor McDavid and others, what he expects when it comes to selection competition, and how the team is planning to integrate both veteran stars and youthful talent into a formula that increases the chance of a new trip to the final of the Stanley Cup.

The first different questions were about McDavid. Bowman confirmed that he had continuous discussions and that no one in the organization is worried. They have every reason to believe McDavid when he says he wants to win in Edmonton. They also like to talk to hockey and the team and brands: “I think he also has a really good wrist in the team.” He added: “If the leader and the captain he has thoughts about things, and I want to understand that so that we can work together.”

“When he is ready, he will be ready.”

Bowman also said that he had none of the rookies of the team Isaac Howard of Matt Savoie (even David Tomaseek) written on the schedule in Pen, but he expects big things from all three. “They are guys who will attack our team offensively,” said Bowman.

Bowman spoke about contracts for other players outside of McDavid and confirmed that he had various positive conversations with awaiting UFAs. He also spoke about how the lines and the schedule could be used this season. Under his specific answers, he noted that Jake Walman and Darnell Nurse probably anchor one link, with Mattias Ekholm and Evan Bouchard the other.

When it came to the goal convening, Bowman confirmed that the oilers do not look at ‘situations’ such as Carter Hart. He also said that he is enthusiastic about a new start for Stuart Skinner, where Skinner took advantage of a renewed relationship with goalkeeper coach Peter Aubry.

Lit’s news is positive. Veteran Zach Hyman will miss the first few days of the camp while he continues with wrist rehabilitation, although Bowman remains sure that he will not miss much of the season, or not at all.

Bowman spoke about a part of the turnover from the summer and noticed: “Change is good … The acquisition of new voices from outside gives us a new perspective.”
