Bottas starts working with Cadillac | RACER

Valtteri Bottas has wasted no time in joining Cadillac in preparation for his return to Formula 1 in 2026, taking part in a seat fitting at the team’s factory a day after the end of the 2025 season.

Cadillac announced Bottas alongside Sergio Perez earlier this year, but did not initially have the same freedom to work with the Finn as he was still employed as Mercedes’ reserve driver for 2025. Fresh from Sunday’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Bottas flew to the UK to visit Cadillac on Monday, carrying out his seat fitting and other preparatory work at the first opportunity.

“I am happy to finally start working as a driver for the Cadillac Formula 1 team,” said Bottas. “This is a proud moment in my career as it marks the start of a new chapter back on the grid with a team starting its journey in the sport. There is still a lot of hard work ahead, so I am keen to use my experience to help the team now that I am fully involved.”

“It’s special to see everything come together for the first time as a brand new team and you realize the momentum of the project. It’s important to get the preparation right as these moments are really the first steps to get ready for the first test. I can’t wait to start the season and get back to racing.”

Perez has been able to work freely with Cadillac since signing, completing a two-day test of a previous car outing (TPC) at Imola last month. With Bottas also joining, team boss Graeme Lowdon says it’s another important step towards Cadillac’s debut season in 2026.

“It’s great to finally have Valtteri on board and integrated with the team,” said Lowdon. “We’ve been planning for some time now, so it’s fantastic to see these moments taking place ahead of our first season on the track.

“I’m proud of all the work that everyone within the team does. Formula 1 is the best team game in the world and it’s times like these when you see the skills, talents and expertise we have, and how well a talent like Valtteri will feel at home.”
