Sonia Bompastor has highlighted Chelsea’s lofty ambitions for their upcoming Champions League campaign ahead of their opener against FC Twente on Wednesday.
The Blues have emerged top of the Women’s Super League this season, and are unbeaten in their first five games (W4 D1). Their emphatic start means they have extended their unbeaten WSL run to 30 matches.
Wednesday’s match will be the third meeting between Twente and Chelsea in the Champions League, after the two sides clashed in the group stages last season, with the Blues running out winners in both matches, including a 3-1 win over De Grolsch Veste.
After reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League last season, Bompastor outlined her goals for Chelsea’s upcoming European season, which will feature a league stage structure for the first time.

“We are very excited to start a new format in this competition,” said Bompastor.
“Playing in the Champions League is club competition at the highest level and we have already said that as a club we have many ambitions at Chelsea.
“We want to perform at our best level in this competition and make sure we get as far as possible.”
