An interior designer has transformed a moderate heritage house into the house of its dreams, but admits that her design choices are “fat”.
When interior designer Lauren Mahoney inspected a federation property in 2018 in the suburb of Sydney, Haberfield in Sydney, she found it “in disorder and disgusting”.
“They had slaughtered it. Everything was tiled, they had torn the original open fireplaces,” she said. “It had a kitchen from the late 1970s, and when you entered the renovation of the 80s at the back, there was a wall that blocked the natural light and you had to go left or right to go into rooms.”

Mrs. Mahoney and her husband Steven Zahra were fascinated by the house in 144 Bland Street.
“It had a huge corridor, which is rare, original fretwork, beautiful architraves and edges, high ceilings and original windows and it was on a huge block of 894 m² and rear-northier.
“It tapped all the right boxes and we knew we could re -design it to have the right layout.”

Although they are interior design and heritage specialists like the duo behind Studio Trio, Mrs. Mahoney admits that they were nervous.
“I went back to the house four times to make sure that I was ready to take on a renovation that is huge.”

In 2019, the couple moved to the dining room of the extension with their baby to renovate the front before they move to a rental home to rip off and re -do the extension.
“It was an emotional roller coaster,” said Mrs. Mahoney.
Five years later, Russellville 1913 was transformed into an elegant Charmer from Federation with five bedrooms and three bathrooms.

The original four walls will continue to exist, while a new, friendlier extension offers a spacious kitchen, dining area with pastry sitters and opening a huge lounge space to a covered veranda.
Heritage functions have been restored throughout the house, such as ceilings, marble fireplaces, leadlight windows and chimneys, while new details such as gang archs, insiele tiles and wall panels have been added.

Outside, an entertaining patio surveys irrigated gardens designed by Pepo Botanic design, with decorative trees, a vegetable garden and boxwood balls.
Agent at Belle Property Simone Azzi described the real estate as “unique in its kind”.
“From the letterbox to the rear gate everything is composed and tailor -made for the house. There is nothing generic in the house and no costs have been saved,” she said.
“There is Ralph Lauren wallpaper and curtains, gaggenau kitchen appliances and a lacanche oven. And every wardrobe and cabinet is painted by hand.”

With Mrs. Mahoney and Mr Zahra enthusiastically to a new project and the real estate is too great for their family of three, they mention Russellville for sale.
Mrs Mahoney admits the “bold -printed” design and color choices of the building – with French gray, beautiful pink, beiges and soft greens – “is not for everyone”.
“Large spaces with high ceilings can be boring if they are neutral. The color adds a modern twist,” she said.
“We want to rely on the high-end market and people who appreciate heritage and classic houses. It would not fit with someone looking for a modern house; they just wouldn’t understand.”

Mrs Azzi thinks that real estate will stand out, given the limited number of premium family homes at the top of the inner market in the western western way.
“If someone leaned back, waiting for that special trophy house, this is it.”
She expects the house to match families and downsizers of blocks the size of an estate on the North Shore or East Buitenwijks who want to be closer to children and grandchildren.
Buyers tend to like Haberfield for the federation and Victorian property on large blocks, and streets covered with beautiful gardens and towering trees.

Presisence to the CBD, Premier Private Schools and the Popular Bay Run adds to the allure, while the locals love the Italian heritage restaurants and cafés.
Considering Haberfield include the busy arterial roads on the edges and the aircraft noise, while those who want a local pub or bar can be disappointed.
However, Mrs Azzi regards the lack of nightlife as positive.
“I think having no pub is a good thing to be honest. If that is jam, you don’t have to go too far.”
