The Neue Class era of BMW will officially start the debut of the IX3 next month. Soon every BMW will look and have similar functions if the daring new electric SUV of the automaker – including performance cars. Fortunately, most of them must keep their iconic names.

A message about the Bimmer Post forum By the user in suggests that BMW will not add the letter “I” at the front of its new performance models. Instead, for example, the performance variant of the IX3 will be called the X3 M. M performance models, however, the letter will keep the letter “I” at the front of their name plates; IX3 M60 xDrive.

A separate BMW insider attached to Engine That these reports are indeed true.

The production of those performance models only starts somewhere in 2027, the mail suggests. The standard IX3 is now debuting in Munich next month and is for sale in the US in early 2026.

This coincides with reports from 2023, in which BMW M -Baas Frank van Meel said that the company would never use “I” and “M” letters on the same vehicle. “We would never use an I on an M, even if it would be electric,” Van Meel said Top gear. BMW did the name “IM3” in 2023, but that type plate will probably never see the daylight.

Of course electric M cars are not the only performance vehicles on the horizon. BMW recently confirmed that the inline-Six and V-8 engines in its M cars are not going anywhere. The company recently updated these engines to meet stricter Euro 7 regulations, and it promises to continue to use them in M performance in the future.
